Hey everybody how are you doing??!!

After many posts, google searches, talking to experienced people, my circumstances and all that.... i've decided on this...let me know if i should change my mind for the millionth time before i place the order for the extras i need this week......this is the current plan...:leaf:

- 4x4x6.5 foot secret jardin II DR120 grow tent

- dimmable 600w hps/mh light w/ 8 inch air cooled reflector (connected to 8 inch inline fan 590cfm with dial down remote, to a carbon filter, using outside air in)

- 6 plants 2 rows of 3, grow to 18 inch with 600w MH (it can be dialed down for veg growth and seedlins') Veg until about 18" high, then flip to 12/12 flower with HPS 600w, after than possible 9 plants 3 rows of 3, first see how 6 go

- use hempy method to grow, this seems very user friendly and easy, with better yields than soil, i plan to start from seed, possibly in rock wool, 4" ,6" or 8", not sure yet, until root pop through then into the 3.5 hempy buckets...

ummm.. think thats about it anything else i forgot to mention ill add ... thank you for peepin

let me know what you guys think, a pretty sturdy setup?

whats a dial down remote? A variac is the only proper way to dial down a brushless motor fan.

I would go with a 6 inch fan and hood. If you decide to go with an 8 inch fan I've found the cheap chinese ones made by popular company's don't last very long.

Its a centrifugal fan which is better than an axial duct fun. It is chinese, you may have really good luck with it. In my experience the larger fans require higher tolerances when built for quality and longevity. YMMV

That controller is not designed to be used on a brushless motor.

ok i see... is there a better option that you recommend regarding the fan and controller. on the website of the controller says for use with high velocity fans and is the same brand of the fan and has a picture of the exact fan next to it in the pic?

thanks for the reply's i appreciate all the help i can get

im seeing a lot about variable autotransformers being recommended i around the net, on the expensive side i see but seems much more worth it...thoughts?

A variac is nice, but completely unnecessary. A good fan speed controller has worked for me, as well as about million other people including many (if not most) of the best growers, for many years with out burning a room down. The important thing FuckJeffGoldbloom is that you buy a controller that meets the specs for your fan. You can find them everywhere. If your in doubt still go to your local grow store. I have yet to go to a grow store that doesn't leap at the chance to help you just so you will buy some stuff. Just be careful or you might spend a lot more than you mean to!

hey jiji, i came across that brand you mentioned before after some research, is this the one

http://www.amazon.com/Variac-Variable-Transformer-300va-Output/dp/B006NGI8VS/ref=lh_ni_t?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1MJXBMMDKYADG

not bad price at all if the others are gonna burn my house down

hey CannabiDude how are you?

yeah i figured they must be pretty safe, sometimes these threads make me overthink everything...in another thread i asked a question regarding the ventilation,a member suggested i use a temp controller, and they are not relatively expensive, sed use this with regular inline duct fan, seems like it would work well

I'm doing awesome thank you! I think the important thing is to be safe no matter what you decide. Put all the good you can in and they'll give it back. Remember you don't need the best to start.

thank you for your inputs, i know i dont need the best, but i had such a bad first experience that im over thinking everything lol... be safe :weed:

I don't think that will fan controller will burn the house down LOL. They usually just create heat and make the fan hum and shorten the life of the fan.

I have one of those variacs, it has worked fine for me but as you can see from the reviews its not the highest quality according to them and its obviously chinese.

If your tight on cash my reccomendation would be get the same brand fan in a 6 inch and no fan controller

Oh and not exactly sure what outside air in means but sucking air through a carbon filter works better than pushing it through.

im having trouble understanding the order of how things should ventilate, what goes before what and where, inside or out of tent, anyway you guys can help me with this, i googled for pics so i can visually understand it but nada... thanks:peace:

Personally I like to put my fan where the exhaust line leads outside. The ducting connects to it and then to the hood. on the other side of the hood is more ducting going to the carbon filter which I keep in the grow room. Essentially your air should come from the grow room and be pulled through the carbon filter, then the light then the fan which sends it out. I also believe in keeping fresh air circulating through so I like forced air intake bringing enough air through to keep a slightly negative pressure in the room thus assuring that if I'm not totally sealed smell will still not leak out as the room is a slight vacuum. And of course if your doing any kind of intake from an uncontrolled environment make sure its filtered! i prefer to use furnace filters for this as all i'm worried about is general debris but your need may mandate a tighter filter. Advanced Nutrient has a tutorial that good camera angles. Its not the same as what i prefer but they still do it nicely. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vNtEqMc94k

That only happens with some fans..more common with cheap pos fans than quality. my active air's hum... vortex and CAN do not..

The great thing about oversizing a fan and dialing back is how quietly it operates...

400 cfm through a 6 inch whole is LOUD.. 400 through a 10 in hole (800cfm dialed back) is quiet.
