bottom leaves dieing

I recently transplanted my new plants from party cups to 1 Gallon containers. Two days later the bottom leaves on about half of them (there are 10 total) are turning yellow and seem to be dieing. Could this be due to the stress of the transplant or do I need to look for a different cause?

Normal stuff mate, no worries. Just curious, why did you choose gallon containers?

I chose 1 gallon because of the size of my veg box and to let the roots grow to fill the 1 gallon. Once they are ready to flower i will transplant them into 5 gallon pots. I am new at this so if this is not the best way to do it I would welcome any advice. The lights that the bottom plants are under can be raised and lowered on chains. Also I have wrapped the pots on the bottom with black plastic(found out not to use clear pots).

I'm impressed. You have obviously done some homework. I asked the question about the one gallon pots to get a feel for how much research you had done. I didn't want to be the one to break it to you that you will need to transplant one more time.
Are you using the tubes for a drip irrigation system?
What are your plans for flowering? and ventilation?
Are you using a moisture meter?
You good help a lot of other new people if you put this in a journal, I think you have some things to share. Good Growing.

Thanks VictorV. The tubes are taking CO2 to the plants from 1 gallon jugs with sugar, yeast and water in them. In the bottom of the veg box i put in a a louvered vent and on the opposite side at the top i put a 50 cfm bathroom exhaust fan for ventilation...So it draws in the bottom from one side and out the top of the opposite side. And yes i am using a moisture meter. When i first started this grow I nearly killed my plants from poor drainage and possible overwatering. I think a moisture meter is a must have for those of us who are new to horticulture. As for flowering I am using plywood sections put together with hinges so i can make it larger or smaller according to the number of plants. If i am not flowering I can fold it up and put it away. It is also lined with mylar. Here are a few pictures of the flowering area. These are the plants that were in the bottom of the veg box. They are under 400w hps. Still waiting on thier sex. Yes, I am flowering. Waiting to see if they are boys or girls. I'm sure if I had some experience I could tell already.

how many days have you been flowering? it usually takes at least 13 days before the first sign of FEMALE.. a few days less for MALE signs..

I'm only about 5 days into flowering.

Oi right on mate, insted of 5 gallon you should just up it to 3gallons.... 5 gallon pots are more for mothers...

I have never had a plant go that far... Are you saying that an 8 inch pot will not be big enough to hold a mature plant.

Thanks for the advice guys. At the store they called the pots 5 gal, but they aren't as big as my 5 gal buckets that I have at home. So they are probably between 3 and 4 gallon. Thanks for the feedback.

8 inches is big enough... LOL... BUT a 3 gallon container really UPs your chances of getting the most from your harvest...

a small pot with poor watering technique will lead to a plant that gets ROOT BOUND.. for sure...

If you are going to FLOWER early.. like at 14 days, then a 1 gallon container is OK..

its normal for 3-5 set of the bottom leaves to die off as it grows. and nice set up by the way. you have obviously done some homework

normal brother, bottom leaves die off first set. the plant is fine. do u have pics?
