Brand new grower, looking for some friendly advice

What's up guys. First off I'd like to say this forum has helped me along more than you could ever imagine, and hopefully, now that I've actually joined, it will only get better.

So like the title says, I'm new to growing. Brand new. I figured I would start small stealthy growbox, a Speaker Cabinet. The dimensions are roughly, 3.5 ft in height, 1 ft deep, and 1.5 ft wide.

Basicly my plan thus far was to install a 125 watt fluorescent growlight to the top of the cabinet, in front of a reflective sheet. For ventilation i was just planning on using a computer fan attached to where the speaker head used to be, to circulate air through the box.

To be perfectly honest this is about the extent of my plan. I was just hoping to get some feedback before I really get the wheels in full motion. I hope this made sense to you guys.

To a brand new grower looking for advise I will say this. Keep your mind open and never count out the runt until it is over. As for growing in a speaker cabinet I have never had any reason to grow in one. Why would you? Knock out a wall or move your wife in with her mother and get shit done.

Hello.. I'll say to follow through with you plan and let it evolve as time goes on.. You'll find flaws you'll need to address as you see fit.. when your plant grows, you'll have to grow with it and be its friend.. Think like the plant, be one with the plant.. baby her, let her know you care enough to adapt with her.. Pay close attention, your system will be a work in progress.. Good luck my friend.

Thanks! I'm definetly planning on hitting a few bumps along the way. But, the box will be within arms reach from my bed, so I'm sure over time I will develop QUITE an intimate relationship with the plants hahaha. As for reasons why I'm growing in a speaker box. Well, I live in an apartment, and it's discreet, cost effective, and hell I'm brand new to this and am really just doing this for enjoyment. That aside, you guys don't see any major flaws in my setup?

Yer i agree, growing in a speaker cabinet is problematic. Find a bigger more suitable place, consider temps of the area growing. Learning is hard, forget the final yeild as that is just a bonus at this stage, instead focus on learning to do some gardening. Really it isn't that hard but if you don't overcome some fundamental issues it will never work.

Firstly the most important thing is don't over or under water, plants need wet and dry cycles, water all the soil then wait x amount of days for it to dry again, usually 4 to 6 days. Watering is all important, most tap water is fine to use, don't believe the scary sh!t about chlorine etc but rather find out for yourself by calling the water company or researching it on the internet. I have chlorine in my water, some say let it dissapte for 24hours as it is a gas and dissapates into the atmosphere. Another second type of chlorine called chloramine is not a gas and not good for your plants, find out for yourself!

Next is pH, soil is normally slightly acidic and contains peat, most growers find that they need fine powdered garden lime which consists of dolomitic limestone. This buffers or raises the pH up to near neutral and is what marijuana plants like. Lime is all important and you need to appreciate this fact. Ph every bit of water and ferts you give the plant and adjust to near pH7, mj loves pH ranges from 6.4 to 6.8 so lime is perfect and supplies the right ratio of calcium and magnesium.

Fertilizers are not needed till the plant has eaten all the ferts in the soil, roots will be poking outa the drainage holes and the plant will be looking a bit snugg in the pot. Ferts are nearly always acidic and can lower the pH causing problems, make sure ferts pH is adjusted before adding to the soil. Rule of thumb is don't fertilise for the first three to four weeks.

Ec/ppm This is the measure of the soluable particles suspended in water or ferts. Buy a pH and ec pen to regulate the ferts and ppm of water.

Good luck

I agree I think growing in a speaker cabinet would not be a newbie concept just because of the heat alone? idk but I like your set up if you do.

He mails it out to me. hahah Michigan sounds okay, but I'm pretty content in BC. I like being able to smoke, (and grow) withought having to think about the possibility of ever going to jail.

I've seen a few other threads on this site of people converting old computers into grow boxes, is my concept not fairly similar? Sorry if I sound like a broken record, but I value your opinions.

Yes but no! So you grow in a speaker box, even if no light escapes as soon as the thing flowers it will stink the whole room out anyway plus you gona get heat and humidity problems and being a new grower no one would advise this trickish grow.

I smoke most of the weed unless I find other uses for it. And hey Michigan went medical I am free to smoke and grow without jail issues.

Really? Good stuff man, one state at time.

As for the odor during flowering, is there no solution? An ionizer or something?

Believe it or not young jedi old fashion baby powder lightly dusted on the fan leaves will help with odor and help keep pest out.

Lightly dusted on the fan leaves. Hmmm. I'm not sure if I'm following. Just sprinkle that shit on while the fan is spinning so it circulates throughout the room? Sounds like it would work alright. Would that not just be temporary tho?

Well kinda but idk I do it for outdoor plants to deal with bugs and it seems to help with odor. To think of it I have never used it during flowering and probly would not. I would dust the leaves in veg only.. however I though about you while I was smoking my joint and came up with this equasion.... small space x odor = baking soda. Use like you would in the fridge.

that sounds like a pretty good idea considering its such a small box. I'm sure some air fresheners situated around the room would help some too. Thanks for the help.

Where did the bug post come from? Random. Go for the speaker box if you have your mind set on it, when you popping that seed into soil then?
