Brand new setup...

Ok so i've decided to bring my growing indoors. I talked with my wife and she is gung ho! You married guys know that you have to ask to use closet space for anything but her stuff.

So anyway on to the good stuff...

Alright first is the equipment list that i have so far or at least ordered.

My seeds I have ordered from Nirvana-shop.com
I ordered some Durban Poison
I also ordered some Early Misty
I was directed to HTG and I bought this 400 WATT GROW LIGHT SYSTEM


It is simple all in one kit and it will be ready to go out of the box.

i have my closet all picked out, stripped out and ready to go. The first thing I had to do was remove all the shelving and carpet.

I then covered the one very small window, with a heavy duty contractor garbage bag and taped it down to seal out any chance of light disturbing anything.


More tomorrow....

I moved my grow room out of the closet because it got too hot with my 400W HPS. It was constantly in the low 90's F. You may need to use the window for ventilation.

You'll have to do a lot of planning and adjustment along the way to be at all successful growing those 2 strains at one time/in the same grow. If you start them at the same time the sativas will overtake the indicas severely...

The "beginner" speak from breeders is bullshit, IMO. Indicas that flower quickly would be an easier grow (IMO) than a longer-flowering sativa that may very well hermie somewhere along the way...

ditto w/ the 450gr per sq meter. Pretty lofty goals..and highly unrelaistic for a "beginner"...

but hey..I'm just a grower...WTF do i know?

I know there is a LOT of learning to do... but that is why I am here... to learn from people like you. I wont be germinating all the seeds at one time.. ill try one strain then the other when that is complete. But ill probably end up going with the Indica since it is shorter and flowers faster, the high is better as well i think.

i never trusted that nirvan seed shop. 500 grams per square meter is about one plant yes? where im at (the springs) 1.8 grams is an even 5 but we just round everything

so a nickle is 2 grams
dime=4
quarter= 6
dub=8
half=10
ounce is a bit more, istead of two halves we just go up to about 31 grams? thats what i got last time on the hook up.
so if there are 31 grams in one ounce and 16 ounce in a pound thats 16x31=496 grams is one pound from where im from.

ONE POUND! from beggining to end in one square meter... that is why i dont trust that damn site. they dont even have there euros right..

Hopefully you can vent through the window. Do you have AC in that area? Which strain are you growing first? That looks like a nice area to grow. Yeah I don't listen to the for beginners when it comes to picking out a strain, go with what you like. Good luck with everything.

28 grams in an ounce. Hey cidly, how you plan on germing your seeds. Dont overlook this part. I did my first time and fucked up. I learned quickly though.

July 7th..
Today I made great progress in my grow room..
I have purchased two fans... one oscillating 12' desk fan just for circulation and one high power Squirrel cage fan for the negative draft in the room. See this room used to be a bathroom, maybe it was never completed, it wasn't when i bought the house. It has a roof vent and i am going to be connecting my negative draft fan to that with an inline charcoal filter that i am going to make out of screen, a 3" piece of PVC and charcoal briquettes. That way it will vent out the roof.
I also purchased some chain to hang the lights, 4 - 2gal buckets,4 trays for the buckets, 1 large bag of river rock (small rock) to place in the bottom of the buckets to promote good drainage. I have already soaked them in bleach and rinsed, rinsed, and rinsed them to make sure no bleach remains in the rock prior to putting in the bottom of the pot and under the soil and worm castings.
I also purchased a 3' diameter dryer vent hose to use to connect to my vent and fan.
I built a nice stable shelf for the four plants to grow on. I have it mounted at 22" off the floor so that I have some storage room underneath, it makes it easier to work with them and appreciate them in all stages.AND I am thinking about going hydroponic if this first couple of grows go well and i learn a LOT more than i know now.
I have tried today to put up some more pics but for some reason rollitup.org's file manager isnt working in my account. I will try to upload them later tonight so you can see what i am referring to my vent setup.

Im going to vent out of the roof, my grow room is an old bathroom... i used the current vent pipe to use for this exact purpose.
As for the strains I am going to try the Indica first. It is shorter and flowers faster by about 4 weeks or so i think. Keep in touch and let me know how im doing as I progress in this endeavor.

Cool, that's exactly what I do, up to the attic. And in my attic I have one of those huge exhaust fans to cool my whole house. It's like a freakin wind tunnel up there... have you given the room a test run yet. I left everything that I was going to be using on for a couple of days before I germinated, this way I could troubleshoot before. The room temp was a real bitch for me, I'm glad I figured that out before I started in the room. I have a 4x6.5x7 foot room and I had to put an extra exhaust fan in so now I have 2 and I had to put an inline fan into the ducting that goes into the attic. Give the room a test run is the only advice I could give you at the moment. You sound like you know what you're doing and it's nice to see your not skimping!! Have a good night

No i haven't given the room a good test run yet.. i am hoping to when my lights arrive and my Mylar. I still have to hook up the sqrl fan yet. im trying to think of a way to tie in a round dryer hose to a square sqrl fan exhaust. My best idea now is cardboard and LOTS of duct tape. I think it will be ok. I was going to place the sqrl fan on the floor and draw air from there... what do you think? i have seen Mr Greens video on Pot-tv.net and he hung his from the ceiling about a foot below it... im not sure

Grow room looks nice, the only advice I got for ya is about your venting. That pipe your venting into looks like it is a plumbing vent pipe (I work in HVAC so I notice those things), make sure you have a good seal around that flex tube, and be sure to keep your exhaust fan venting into it 24/7. You definitly don't want sewer gases getting into your house. Other than that, Good Luck!

No big deal but I noticed you have some Miracle Grow with time release feed. I got that and didn't realize that it can screw with your well thought out nute plan. Just remember that stuff already has some NPK and to adjust your nutes to go along with that. I was looking at a couple of my plants one day after I had given them some bat poo and they looked like they had nute burn, and finally that light bulb clicked and I realized why most people on here don't reccomend MG with the food in it. Somebody on here could reccommend some good soil.

Yes it is going to work well. I have "smell" tested it and there is no smell. I also held a lighter to the open end and the flame was drawn into the dryer vent. so even without the fan there is a good negative draft. I believe it is working without the fan because the roof is a concrete with terracotta tile over that and it gets HOT since i am here in a tropical climate. I believe that is causing the updraft. Burt when i get ready i will tie in the sqrl fan and make it really work. Thanks for the advice!

Yea i have some miracle grow seed starter and some standard miracle grow soil. I thought this was good stuff? i really dont have a nute plan i am going to follow since i have heard to NOT fertilize the first 14 - 30 days... due to the ferts in the soil. I have a Home Depot right down the street... what should i use? i guess i have lots more learning to do.. and I have about a week to do it Thanks for keeping up with me. i appreciate it.

If the MG says it will feed your plants for three months then it has food, if it is just the soil no big deal. I don't want to give you any advice on soil for indoor as I am learning to, just ask I'm sure you'll get many options. Like I said no big deal but it might throw off your nute schedule. I just transplanted my plants out of the MG in to some topsoil with no food, and I now feed them bad guano weekly for food....morking pretty good and my plants look healthier. I'm going to be cloning soon, wish me luck this will be my first time...need to find those females.

Not too much today except i decided to paint the room instead of buying Mylar due to the fact that as I understand from another post... that PotRoast replied to....[Thank you PotRoast]

Here's the chart of percentages of 0light reflected from Jorge's latest:

Foylon 94-95
Reflective Mylar 90-95
Flat white paint 85-93
Semi-gloss white 75-80
Flat yellow 70-80
Aluminum Foil 70-75
Black < 10

So if i can get within 3-5% of the reflectivity of mylar... why spend the cabbage when i can get basically the same results out of a bucket of paint ive already paid for...

Im hoping my seeds will make it here in the next few days, I'd like to be germinating by the weekend. My lights should be here this week as well, so we will see.

I was going to place them in a "grow pellet" and let them go... once they germinate and sprout I will replant them in the final buckets with partial sand for drainage, small rock and MG seed grow and soil.
How did you do yours?

I dont use peet pellets so I cant comment on how well that will work out. My last grow I germed straight from 1" rockwool cubes. I was doing everything right, as far as I knew, and only got 5 out of 12 to germ. I then tried to soak some BB in water and only got 1 out of 5. This time I put them on napkins, on a plate and covered it. I put it on a heat mat, kept it moist(actually they dried up a couple times) and had all 12 germ. Those pellets might work though.
