Hey man, good luck with your grow.

I don't have personal experience on this so can not really comment. However, I have read much debate on this forum and others about people doing this, or NOT!

Some say it helps light penetrate lower down the plant and is good. Others say that vital sugars are stored in the leaves which are used in budding, so they should not be removed. I'm sure someone can give you a more informed reply to this though.....

But my main point is, if you weren't happy with your "mate" ripping leaves off your plants, you should of told him to get his f*ckin' hands off man! Just my opinion though.

Tell your mate to get his hands off. Those leaves receive light, for photosynthesis. Ripping off fan leaves is not the way to go. illogical thinking is what leads to fan leaves being ripped off plants. Less leaf = less photosynthesis, less photsynthesis = less yield, or maybe even potency.

It is a good idea to remove the large fan leaves when they begin to yellow and shrivel up. If the leaves are healthy they should be left alone as they contribute to the plants overall vigor.
If you want to bulk-up the lower buds, simply bend the plant/branches for better light penetration.
