First of all, I've grown many regular seeds AND feminized seeds... and so far, my only hermaphrodites (admittedly caused by me) came from regular seeds & bag seeds. ALL cannabis plants that have ever lived, carry the potential to "hermy." Pollen + pistil = reproduction (unless 1, or both, parents happen to be sterile.)
Secondly, only plants that were bred with a genetic hermaphrodite as a parent will produce higher %'s of hermaphroditic plants. Breeders use stress-induced hermaphrodites (which can be done to any plant, within reason), because (obviously) they don't want to sell hermaphroditic seeds. Parents pass traits to young, if a genetic hermy is used- hermy traits will appear frequently; if a stress-induced hermy is used then the chances of hermaphroditic plants should be no higher than usual (or in a regular seed.)
Also, I doubt anyone here knows exactly what's used in the Cannabis Cup and most people don't care anymore because it seems like the winner is always the breeder with the best marketing strategy. My point here is that, I'm pretty sure Dinafem only breeds feminized seeds but THEIR Critical + (Bilbo) won the Highlife Cup of Barcelona in 2011... so maybe they aren't used in the precious Cannabis Cup but they were (I assume) used in the Highlife Cup.
Offering feminized seeds doesn't necessarily mean a breeder doesn't want anyone breeding with their genetics, because it can be done anyways... and many strains aren't legit until they have been selfed, which would make them feminized almost automatically.
There's plenty of home-made crosses between reg X reg, reg X fem, fem X reg & fem X fem. I wonder, if one grew some bud from A strain, using 1 regular seed and 1 feminized seed (getting a similar phenotype)- could u mix up the nugs and then be able to tell them apart by potency? ...I really, highly doubt it.
If you don't like fems, then don't grow 'em. That doesn't mean you have to make others believe that regular seeds are better just because you prefer them. (I do admit that regular seeds/breeding NEEDS to be upheld & that they offer much more freedom in growing/breeding BUT feminized seeds have their place in the cannabis world any 1000's of people absolutely love 'em.)
