Broke the stem & touched the wound

Hi,

Happy to finally join this wonderful community :)
I have a plant at day 52 of vegging, and it's getting pretty tall - 2.5 ft sativa, around 12 nodes. It's a beautiful C99, my first grow.

I wanted to tie it down before going into flowering, but unfortunately the stem broke when I tried. I immediately tied it with a rope to stand (i'm out of duct tape), but kinda panicked and tried to close the wound with my fingers. I forgot to wash them.

The wound didn't seem big though but the stem broke at around node 8-9.

It happened as I was changing the water (growing in hydro), but forgot to turn on the pumping system... I only remembered about 3.5 hours later.

I'm worried - is my plant isn't going to die?? I'm worried that it was hazardous to it that I touched it.

Thanks!

It will be fine

We pinch and break and bend over plants for supercropping and shit

Here is little seedling that i bent completely down , the stem broke but its slowly healing and is starting to grow back upwards now

Thanks Goten!
Wow that was quick. REALLY glad I joined.

How long should it take to heal?
How long should I wait now before going into flowering?

Splint with a paddlepop stick and electrical tape or the top section will die or be close to it..

Thanks man, I just taped it with a white tape I had.
I splinted it to my one of my DarkRoom's poles with a rope.

I woke up this morning and it was still open though... so now after reading this I went to the store that just opened and bought me a tape.

When should I remove the tape? Any suggestions on how soon I should go into flowering? The plant is basically ready except for this wound.

BTW update - the broken part's branches are up and shiny again :) I hope they make it!

I think you should delay vegging until this wound is healed. Just ensure you have the broken stems securely together and tape with electrical. or I use garden twine or something similar.

In a few days you should notice the wound healing. A week or so it should be completely healed, depending. Just leave the tape on and go flowering from there.

Just think of it as a minor set-back.

Thanks brother! I can't wait for her to finish healing, she's super ready to go into flowering.
Actually I'm a little worried about height - she is 80cm (2ft 9inch) now and I'm really worried that during flowering I will run out of room in my DarkRoom.

My DarkRoom is 2.00m (6"4) tall and I need a buffer of 50cm (1ft 9inch) height for my 400W HPS that is still waiting.

I'm really worried that if I trie to bend & tie her again I will break her again - is there any other way I can stop her from growing so tall?

If you don't see any leaves wilting, then it's not broken, just pinched. It'll recover and the buds will get even bigger because you "broke" the stem.

You can do a controlled repeat of the damage you did. It's called "Super-Cropping, and you pinch the stem until you feel it crack, and bend it over. It will heal, and grow, just that much shorter. I had a Sat that I did that to 3 times during a grow. She'd get taller, and I'd pinch and lay her over again.

Thanks - I'll start researching Super Cropping - found a ton of info about it here in the forums and on YouTube.

By the way, my bottom 2-4 nodes seem to have mold on the leaves. Can I cut the leaves and hope it doesn't spread to the rest of the plant?

Yes. But be prepared for more. It's hard to kill off mold spores. Thank god I've never had it (Knock wood!)

I hope for the best.... before even realizing it's mold and how harmful it is, I smoked a ton of dead leaves because I couldn't wait. I had diarrhea hell for 2 days :wall:

I'm in about week 8 of veg. Hope it's not killing my plant. I'd be really depressed if it's infected bad, she's my little daughter.
