My understanding is that the goal is to close the wound to keep air from exposed inner parts of the broken branch, and support the plant while it heals.
By the varied responses you probably got that all kinds of different tapes have been successful at doing that. I'm not sure about sealing out air from the outer surface, I think the wounds outer bark might heal better with some air access. After a few days, I'd remove the plastic and let it breath.
I recently abused a plant, put it in a scrog too late in veg and broke several big branches. I taped them up with electrical tape as best I could, but several of the wounds did not close all the way. So far they've all healed over and the plants looks fine. I've heard that those areas can be vulnerable to things like PM and other diseases, so its something to keep an eye out for.

That branch that has cling wrap over the outside is because a strand of the bark itself was ripped in the process of pulling it back up so I covered it up. I think what I'l ldo Is check on as frequent as possible and let air breathe through the top by takeing off the top layer

Idk But I did indeed rinse half a water bottles worth of water on it cleanin it off a bit

Well heres the updated branches after hemp twine:
Theres one of the branches looking quite sad. This must have happened last night cause this morn the leaves were still perky. I'm worried for her but I'm hopeful. If she has a full recovery minus the six offshoots I trimmed then she will be much more balanced due to the way the split branches were put back into place. Damn I'm prayin to mother nature tonight

Here are a couple of pics of some of the branches I broke on my poor GG#4. The first one is a branch I didn't even notice until I just went under there to take some pictures -- it went un-taped and healed itself. The second one shows that one 'repair' never really joined back up, the halves stayed split. All that abuse and I never lost as much as a leaf from this plant.
The last pic is the top of the plant taken just a few minutes ago. She's in good shape all things considered. As a disclaimer, I have no idea if any of these "wounds" will give it problems later or weaken the plant when it gets heavy with buds. Time will tell. And there are no guarantees your plant will repair itself, there are a huge number of variables, I'd say genetics probably being the biggest factor.

I'd support it a little better up where it "Y''s" I always use zip ties up there like 3-4" up from the break to really support it well & to get it back where it was & gorilla tape towards where the actual break was + lots of bamboo stakes. It doesn't have to be perfect, but the closer you can get the break back to how it originally was, the more likely it will graft back on to itself.

Good idea with zip ties I'll implement that. As far as taking all that "brace" off her in the future I think I'll wait two weeks and see if those branches are flourishing like they once did. But Yeah when I impliment the zip ties Ill bring an exacto knife and slit the top cling wrap/duct tape layer to add airflow as well as to see the progress being made if any. she looks sad coz shes putting all her energy into healing her limb,watch in a fue hour when the sun beams down on her,she will reach for it while healing,remarkable plant mate,your doing a good job,exactly what i would do.dont be down hearted mate k shell be fine a you learned a fue tricks,happeneds to us all at some point.keep up the good work

this is all we do and they are fine i got a whole big roll of geurilla tape at every spot and use it alot and alot of wire ties

It was fine on the stomach. It was only cannabis/water/brown sugar, and it made me feel energized it was pretty cool

Alright farmers well this is the last update before I leave her for a week. Its supposed to be a rainy week also so I'm hopin no mold gets into the brace. I slit the top and opend up as much as I could with an exacto knife then added a ziptie which closed it right back up 
The major branch you see first is casting tons of shade on the bottom right branch which is flourishing but it'll be aight it'll get filtered sun. Anyways take a look:
