If you compare the sets of photo's you can see a bit more stretch on the modified spectrum. A little fuller on the standard.
Since I kept all the same variety this round and they are all in the same system I will weigh the final harvested plants to have a biomass comparison.
Unfortunately to be 100% accurate I would say an even larger sample size would be in order. Growing from seed has it's variability and you can see I got 1 being a bit of a runt in the center of the stock spectrum side. Could be the seed, could have been a bit crowded in the rock wool cubes, who know's.
This test will give an answer with enough accuracy to satisfy my curiosity.
Even more tests will be following. The new XB lights and HLG 65 will get a chance to take a stab at it as well.
Overall, the growth under these 42X lights @ only 70W per 2x2 is impressive to say the least
Lol I was just gonna ask if you were getting some xbs . I gotta say I really like the look of them, and it seems like the spectrum creates some great growth.
Day 25 in the 42X vs 42X Spectral Showdown
Getting a bit of inner tip burn. A little worse on the 5%-10%-85% side.
Will reduce nutrient concentration slightly
Day 30 in the 42X vs 42X Spectrum Showdown and the tent is packed!
Got a bit of tip burn this round that is a bit more prominent on the modified spectrum side so will fine tune nutrient recipe in future runs.
Day 33 for the 42X vs 42x spectrum showdown and it was harvest day.
Overall I feel the quality is better on the standard spectrum with more Blue and more Far Red.
I also noted more tip burn issues on the modified spectrum side but I know my nutrient mix needs a little dialing in. Last run I did not have as much tip burn problems. Possibly due to 2X the number of plants sharing the same reservoir and calcium becoming the element in sort supply first.
Overall prefer the head shaping of the standard spectrum and leaf thickness wise they are very similar. It just seams to vary a bit from plant to plant and leaf to leaf.
So onto the yield - I actually weighed the heads as I cut them down this round and it would seem that had I not had a runt in the center position on the stock spectrum since early on that the stock spectrum would have potentially yielded just slightly more than the modded spec. We are really splitting hairs on this one and just the genetics of the plants is definitely coming into play.
For now it is time for the Big Salad.
Stay tuned for the next round which should be HydroGrowLed XB70 Micro vs HLG 65 V2!
