Brown decay on tops of cuttings.

We're trying to back up this summers crop and our cuttings are turning brown and mushy at the tops. They were taken from the field and given a physan 20 dunk before trimming and doing the 45' cut and scrape underwater. Any ideas how to stop this decay?

Oh yea, they were taken 2 days ago and given a spray of copper biocide to hopefully avoid this problem.

They were wet (soaked and possibly submerged) for about 2-3 hours. Too long?
Thanks!
Stems in the water will be OK for 2-3 days but the leaves are more fussy about being submerged. That probably contributed to the problem.

Too much humidity. Get rid of all of the ones with the brown shit, and be prepared to throw the rest away later. You may have one or two that push through.

aaarg! We took 420 of them!!! We've got a pretty bad track record on this cloning business!
Thanks anyways for the bad news!

Sounds like you are over complicating the cloning process. Easy peasy.
1. Use a razor blade and cut just below the third or fourth node down at a 45+ degree angle."the more exposed tissue the better"
2. Use blade and trim leaves and nodes only leaving the top plus one or two nodes.
3. Place in a glass of water while you cut more clones or just dip in water and then into cloning powder. Skip the dip if using gel.
4. Take a toothpick or something similar and poke hole in the pre soaked jiffy pellet.
5. Stick stem down into jiffy pellet burying at least two of the cut nodes.
6. Pinch jiffy pellet ensuring contact on all sides of stem.
7. Dip clone top into a miticide/funcide mix for 5 SECONDS and then gently shake/tap off excess.
8. Cover with humidity dome and spray every three/four days.
Heck I don't even use cloning powder/ gel anymore and have 95-100% success rate.
If I missed something or if y'all do something a little different feel free to chime in!! Hope this simplifies things to some degree for ya!!! I couldn't imagine losing 400+ clones=-O

Cheers for the advise. We seem to be experts at killing them, so I can't add anything to your expertice!!!
Thanks again!!!

Don't put more than 20-25 clones per humidity dome. You can't pack them in super tight, or you'll end up with the brown slime every time.
