Brown roots

hi guys,

This is my first dwc grow.
Yesterday I changed out the water in my bucket. While I was doing so, my plant was suspended in the air, it took me about 20mins to do.
Yesterday my roots were pure white, I've just checked now, and they're brown.
Do you think I left the roots exposed to the air for too long?
I can't really think of any other reason.
Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers guys!

Root rot in just 24 hours, with clean water in a newly changed res? Doesn't sound right to me.

It's common in DWC for some Nut mixes and small reservoirs. Sounds like Nut stains. More air bubbles will fix it. Also, you can try adding you mix slower, so it has a less chance for clumping up and bonding; or just wash it off.

I'm using a 50litre bucket, of which only 35 liters is filled with water.
I'm using Asvanced nutrients, and add them separately. Ph is 5.9, ppm 1200.
I have a 2500lph pump.
They were white yesterday. Root rot in 24hours doesn't seem credible.
They smell fine, have no gunk on them, but they're brown. Tbf I did have them exposed to light and air for 20 mins yesterday while u changed my bucket out, would that have done it?

It's not root rot, I've used a ton of AN. It's just nut stains. I will say, continued build up of nuts on the root surfaces will lead to root rot in the longterm. You can also, cut back on the nuts to fix or H2O2 will. I normally don't worry too much about it.

Are you treating your system with a sterilizer or a beneficial bacteria? Not saying it is root rot, but that is when I first saw signs of pythium on my first grow. I thought it was staining, didn't understand how it could happen that quickly, etc. In the end, that's what it was. Pics would help, how big is your root mass?

the question I have is, why the hell would you need 20 minutes to change a bucket? get another bucket or container that you're using and fill it then just transfer over the lid. my roots are exposed for about 5 seconds

Good point.

But yeah, I checked my roots the day after posting this thread, and they were perfectly white again... strange shiz.
