Hey guys this is my second time trying to grow in coco choir and I learned slot the first time. I have 8 small ladies going and for some reason I can not figure out as of two days ago one started showing browning and drying out on the tips of the first set of leaves. I have a 75/25 mix of coco and perlite with no nutrients added yet. They are about a week old and I am stumped. A second plant started showing signs of it this morning so any help would be appreciated!

You have NO nutrients in the media? You're sure? That looks a whole lot like nute burn to me.

There's an almost endless stream of threads about seedlings doing poorly in coco. I know one stubborn guy who killed over 30 seedlings before he switched media. I'm not exactly sure what it is...but my theory is that because of high cec, it holds onto sodium unless totally rinsed and prebuffered and even then the coco needs to be prepared. Google dying seedlings in coco to see that you aren't alone.
I say transplant to a good seed starting mix and go into coco after plant has some growth.

Thanx JohnDee, I did just that, and it seems that coco is problematic across the gardening world, not just cannabis. I never understood why folks would use it as a medium, considering all one has to do to it to make it usable. There are so many other soil substitutes that are far less hassle.

Experienced growers with a good understanding of cation exchange and who also use coco specific nutrients get good hydro like growth. It does have possibilities but so many new growers think it'll be a snap...and end up with problems. Your little plants should survive once out of the coco...just be gentle and it's not necessary to wash all the coco off. Good luck...

Dude, those aint MY little plants!! LOL I'm just questioning the choice of coco in the presence of other equally viable choices. I know coco is used with great success, but as you say, it can be problematic with new growers!!

LOL! I don't use much native soil here due to the abundance of low level heavy metal contamination. I can get some with really low levels way out in the forests, but not so much around the cities.
