Bubble hash

I dont bother hanging or drying outdoor plants. I only harvest trichomes from them. If I had pathogens infect my plants outdoors in flower, I'd just throw them out.

But in any case, I spray and rinse my bags like Frenchy does for my indoor stuff, which is what I mostly grow. The spraying isn't to "clean off" PM and atmospheric pollution. Lol

Watch the Frenchy video.
Frenghies thread ate days of my life. Not just PM type concerns. I employ predator insects. Molts or discarded shells, poop, dust, pollen from abroad, and just bad airborne contaminants. I have allergies and I consider what I'm actually giving med users. Glad you're good with that. Different issues and standards. Peace.

I'm the type to grab an organically grown ripe peach off a tree in my orchard I had and bite into it savoring its goodness even without soaking it in hydrogen peroxide first, or even rising! Yup different standards.

Makes me wonder though about the immune system and how the isolation from nature by the younger generations will have on it. Like hundreds of years from now will people need to live in bubbles to protect themselves from the bacterial and fungal spores we now breath in with every breath?

Sensitivity sucks. Hard to eat. All frankenstuff today. And I'm over 50. My kid is immune. Not sure if it is just young tummy or early introduction. Not the city guy. Why my issues.

And I'm not handing a chemo patient anything but my cleanest. Organics and peace.

What are your thoughts on how trich color affects hash? Is amber for preferably or clear? Or does it really matter.
thanks.

I prefer ripe flowers, as if I were going to smoke the bud. That means not letting too many get amber, but to the degree of whatever your tastes are for your prefered bud. You don't want too much CBN formation just having it sit on the plant because some of that conversion is going to occur in time after your hash is made.

For sure you don't want immature flower without the trichomes reaching their full size. By the time the majority of the trichomes on the plant have swelled, it's pretty normal to have maybe 10-20% amber in the uppers depending on strain. If you're using lower popcorn to make hash, I'd do a staggered harvest and leave those fluffy lowers to mature and and allow the trichomes to fill out a bit before doing the run.

I do the Frenchy Cannoli method of using only one bucket per bag. I cut the bottom section of all the buckets off, and nest them - one inside the other each lined with a bag so that the distance between one bag and the one below is at least 4".

I put my washing machine on my patio table in the backyard and drain it into my column of buckets sitting directly on my deck.

But basically what I do is exactly like this, including the spraying! Lol

Great video!Took a few sittings to get it all in.Either i missed something or its not there but video two it jumps into grinding with a strainer. Is he just freezing the product right after hes done with washing?
Thanks.

Normally Frenchy makes pucks with them and freeze dries them. The demo with the strainer was for poorer people like me who really can't justify the cost of a freeze drier. With the strainer, you want to rub your hash through the holes over a clean pizza box or cardboard while it's still wet but cold, so that any broken trichomes don't meld together. Also you'll want to keep the strainer and the spoon you use in the freezer so that your tools are as cold as possible before using them.

If you use a microplane (lemon zester), you need frozen pucks. Usually with that method I just transfer the 220 screen with my neat piles of fresh hash on it straight into the freezer until it's solid. The microplane should be frozen cold too. I don't use this method anymore.

Now I take the more lazy approach, and it seems to work. I just take my wet hash while still fresh and cold, and just chop it with a sharp cold knife on parchment paper. The trichomes will easily come apart as you chop without sticking. Doing this outside on a cold day helps.

Thanks. Yeah I can’t see using a micro plain. Will just waste what little I’ll have anyway.

It's easy to lose skin from your fingers too with that method, especially near the end. Ouchy.

Human skin does not belong in bubble hash!

Well managed to run an Oz of old shake. Machine works great! Did 5 washes. Everything was either in the 73? Or the last one 22 or something can’t remember. The 22 took forever to drain. Blasting with the hose helped but I think a better bag that has more mesh. Turning them inside out was a chore.
the 160 and 120 bags had some material but blasting from the hose seemed to push it down?
Was pretty cold outside -4c only used a bag and half of ice.
so now what is the next step. I have it chopped up on parchment paper.

Yeah blasting it with the hose will cause the trichomes that can fit through the next screen size down. It helps separate your them better, and a way to get rid of any green too in your smaller micron bags. I literally almost get nothing from the 160. I use it as my "catch" bag but I spray the shit out of it first. Then I put what's in there back in the machine just in case.

Your next step is to leave it alone to dry without smoking it all first. bongsmilie

Half truth. Only certain bags will give good quality product, others will be trash, and others will be cooking grade. I run an 8 bag and use all 8 bags. Using every bag is key to getting the coveted full-melt/"Ice-wax"

Keep in mind, different strains have different sized resin glands. So while the "money bag/full-melt" on one strain will be the 90µ, on another strain it might be the 73µ strain. I've had some batches where the 120µ is the full-melt.

220 is your work bag.
190 is typically trash.
160 is cooking grade.
120 is not quite full melt, but definitely better than cooking grade. Will be full-melt with some strains.
90 or 73 will typically be your full melt. Whichever of the two doesn't produce full melt will typically be a step above the 120 bag.
45 is just a step above cooking grade. Smokeable, and with decent flavor even, but not quite as good as your 73-120µ bags.
25 is mostly dirt, but with enough resin glands in it to warrant cooking with it.

I typically combine the 25, 45, and 160µ hash and use it for edibles, tinctures, topicals, etc.

The 73, 90, and 120 is what's worth all the time and effort.

I mostly run hash now due to the same thing you pointed out, trimming sucks. One thing when I was just in a tent only trimming 1-2lbs every harvest. Trimming outdoor harvests of 15+ lbs? I'm never doing that shit again. Only dry/trim the best and easiest nugs and I turn the rest into hash.

If you're running trim from trimming your buds, then yes you'll have to throw the trim into bags (I use trash bags) and freeze them.

The idea behind freezing your material is two-fold: first its to make the resin glands more "brittle" and secondly its to freeze the chlorophyll so as to avoid contamination.

However, I run fresh buds so its a little different for me. After removing fan leaves from the entire plant, I remove each branch one by one. Buds, sugar leaf, and all get tossed into my work bag until its full. Then I agitate. If you run the material immediately upon harvesting, the chlorophyll will still be alive, so it won't end up in your final product and therefore won't need to freeze. Because of this, you can be a little more aggressive with your agitation process

Running fresh also provides the best quality flavor. The hash itself will be dried and cured, so doing so with the bud is a bit redundant.

Have a pump sprayer filled with ice water handy, spray each bag before spooning out the hash. Sometimes things don't go all the way through the screen. You don't want 120µ in your 90 or 73µ hash, or you won't get full melt.

I agitate and dump into the bags 4-5 times, breaking apart the buds in between each wash to ensure I extract as much as possible.

When finished, I dump the contents of the work bag into 1g ice cream tubs and use Everclear to get anything left over. Little extra cooking grade out of the deal. Waste not, want not.

I let the material sit in the bucket for a few days to ensure all the alcohol has evaporated, then dump into the compost pile.

I'll be doing this with 20g bags and trash cans next year. Total pain in the ass doing this in small batches, but sure beats trimming!

And besides, with how amazing full-melt from living soil is I just can't go back to flower. The flavor is extraordinary.
Great comment.
Can I freeze the trim I am doing from time to time (lollipop) and to save it in the freezer for few months until harvest instead of drying it?
Thanks
