bucket size for dwc hydro?

Do you guys think I can get away with using 3 gal buckets instead of 5 in a dwc hydro op. I usually only grow from 3 to 4 feet in height due to restriction. I always have done dirt with 5 gal buckets. They take up so much floor space im thinking that without the dirt taking up the extra room in the bucket I can get away with 3 gal buckets thus getting a couple more plants under the light. And saving some dough on buckets. Any input would be greatly appriciated!

What counts is how much water you will have in the bucket and that depends in part on the rest of the system. IMO, 2 gal is enough for a 3-4 ft plant and 3 is enough for a 6ft.

5 gal pots from homedepot work the best for me... plenty of room for everything and its cheap... like 3 bucks with the lid... the lid is sealed too. you can order one premaid or buy on in your hydro shop but the cost 20-30... net pots sell for like 25c a peice

thanks guys, ill def get the 3 gal there 1$ a pc at the dollar store...and black, much cheaper that home depots 3$ 5 gal im also going to use one of those four outlet air pumps from pets mart there rated for up to 20 gal whatever that means.... im going to run one tube oer bucket..but i was also wondering if those small blue foam air stones that come with the pumps are sufficeint or if I shoulod get the larger pumis stone to disperse the are over more area?
