Bud density problem

Hey guys,

First time on this forum. I am looking for some experienced advice about my bud density problem.

My harvest have been, needless to say, disappointing. The buds look good but the density was a little less than crap.
I was running some random 1000w LED lights that, while having bloom and veg options, likely had the wattage output of a dead battery.

After some looking around I bought one of the Tmlapy F2500 (2500w COB LED grow lights).

I am only growing two plants right now that are just recovering from some training and trimming before I switch them to flower. I didn't want to push more than that until I dial in my setup.

Question: what other ways can I help increase bud density and yield?

Thank you all in advance.

Where ya been getting your LED info and welcome to RIU?
I got my LED info from a friend who warned me about the true wattage thing with them. The actual output of the cheap lights was likely pretty low. The info on my new light comes from the manufacturer and reading endless reviews.
Also, thanks for the welcome :)

How many days of 12/12 are they getting? Early chop is often the reason the density is lacking.
The first run I had we're photoperiod
(Chemdoggin by mephisto genetics)
I harvested them when the trichomes were 10% amber. I was definitely over my head and didn't make nearly enough notes.
Second run
2x Meatbreath photoperiod
One In coir one in soil.
I started using grow with Jane to track it.
I used 12/12 from seed which ended up being 67 days when the trichomes had gone amber at 10%
Is it likely I'm making mistakes on when to harvest then?

Underlighting can increase density and potency of those lower buds by up to 20% :D

Apparently lmao.

What is the best way to apply under lighting? Could I use my cheap LEDs for that you think?

I'm pretty sure I'm reading the app wrong because it definitely took longer than that. It was 12/12 from seed. I'll try to figure it out. Maybe I'm just harvesting too early because I'm looking at the trichomes wrong.

Definitely just started growing, probably a good thing I found this forum and stopped just reading about it.

Definitely chopped early.
Well shit, any advice on knowing when the best time is then? I have a microscope usb tool and clearly the trichome method isn't working.
Also, never can get a solid answer about flowering time. Is that time to go through the flowering stage only?

Two weeks after you think they are over done IMO

I count flowering from the start of 12/12, don't go 12/12 from seed though, or add a couple weeks at least. It's VERY rare to find a strain thats finished in less than 70 days of 12/12.

Just have to get a good feel for ripeness. The calyxes will swell as if there are seeds in them. All the size is there after the first 60 - 70 days but the density comes in last along with potency and yield.

Once you have ran a cut a few times you have a much better idea how long it takes as they all vary. Much better if you are not sure to just harvest a sample nug, let it dry and test it. Harvest in stages if you are not sure.

Fluffy/airy buds can be the result from a lot of different things...weak lights, high temps, humidity, nutrient issues, etc. Keep dialing things in and I'm sure you'll turn a corner. Good luck
