I totally agree 100%. I just haven't caught the trick for this place yet. i have a feeling that I'll get it this time.
If you leave them in the pot will it have a chance of passing peak potency and slip into degradation? If so, when do i stop watering?
Depends on environment but I would say just try to time it right...only you know how long it takes your plants to dry out.....also just cutting and hanging the entire plant should work too....try a couple different methods and see what works best for you.....

I have my watering and feeding almost down. I keep the soil well watered but just so. Then i end up watering twice a week. A friend at the grow shop told me to cut my nutes down to about half no matter the mix to dilute it well. then it receives a steady supply of nutes without blaseing it. i do this because doing a big feed and then water is a crap shoot for me.

anyway, being able to water twice a week it starts to dry at a decent pace. I'm 4-5 weeks away so i start to flush in two weeks. You also said to hang the whole plant and that seems to be the majority. that or paperbags. I'll try some both ways and see what happens i guess

It' 15% humidity here and 7000' altitude. Leave a piece of bread out and in 15 minutes you have a crouton. I put mine in brown paper lunch bags, one cola per bag and put the bags in a closet. Takes about 3 days to dry.

Paper bags sound good. I get the one kola per bag idea but what about all the little buds?

What if I hung whole plants in a closet with a closed door. No air circulation unless I open the door for a minutes to get in a taste of fresh air.

Water curing is not for those trying to acquire the best taste possible.......and bag appeal is lost as well

have you tried 'water curing' ????
Sick asked if you tried water curing you responded by saying you didn't know what it is.......I just thought I'd mention that if you are trying to achieve the best taste water curing
is not the way to go.....water curing is exactly what it sounds like using water to cure...usually done to have smokeable meds as fast as possible....

thumbs down!!
I have seven plants. i'll try some in bags and some in a closet with no ventilation and just "burp" the closet for a few secs once a day and see which works better. If the ones in the closet dry faster i'll just jar them sooner.

Thanks everyone.

heck, my uncle would just cut it, put it in coffee cans in the attic

I just looked up water curing. Yuck. Paper bags or hang whole. that will be the test methods on this harvest.

I noticed once that when i did put bud in the jar while still a bit under dry it had a 'planty" smell. Will this mellow and improve during the cure?

while taste and appearance are both subjective, as is smell, i'll grant you that water curing weed will tend to slightly diminish certain smells and taste, but the smoke is much smoother and cleaner IMHO..
and it does answer the question of drying to quickly...

to each their own..

what do you mean by bag appeal is lost? i am a total newb
he means he feels it doesn't look as appealing (especially if you are selling it... kind of like street appeal using a real estate selling term) it all depends on what you like, if you are used to a bud looking one way, and it doesn't look similar, or familiar, or looks unusual to what you are used to, then it's usually not appealing to you..

if you have an open mind, and you are looking for alternative drying methods, do yourself a favor and try water curing on a bud or two.. HTH
