Bud like this?

I'm starting to maybe think these kinds of flowers lie under a canopy of 1000 watters. I'm also not seeing how when buds are cured, can take on a look of being compressed. These buds looked compressed.

Well, for one thing (from a photographers' point of view), the first photo you showed is slightly out of focus. The jar lid and the bottom of the nug are "Right On"; but the top of the nug is just blurry enough to look smooth.

The second photo is just too dark to make a call.

But, like what was said already, if the buds are compressed (somewhat) during the curing process they come out like a "Popcorn Ball". If given plenty of room, they come out with plenty of "Surface Features". I think "Denseness" is a whole other issue.
