bud rot....question

I went out to look at my baby today and shake off rain from the buds. I noticed some white, cotton like stuff on the outside of one of the large main colas. I took that branch off and saw that it had bud rot in a bunch of places. We've had an incredibely rainy late summer. The cola I took off probably would have been an ounce by itself dried (easily). I have collected the smokeable bud and I'm drying it. Is there anything I can do with all of the bud I took off because of rot? Can I chop it up and make a whole bunch of iso hash or something like that out of it? Thanks for the help in advance.

I throw all moldy buds away. If you can trim away any moldy parts, you can use what's left for hash. But I wont use moldybuds for anything.

The last 2 times I went to shake rain off my babes I've broken nugs/branches off. The first time a couple weeks ago I lost a whole branch that clean fell off, Super premature buds that will go with the shake for edibles. Then this morning I lost a "mini-cola" (one of the branch colas) which you could easily see is a lot more developed than the last amputee. Anyways, my point is to be careful when shaking off rain.

I also wont mess around with mold, I chuck it.

Thanks, I'll just have to cut around the rot/mold as much as possible to use for hash. This really sucks hahahaha. I'm guessing I just went from about 5 or 6 oz of smokeable bud to maybe 2-3 ozs from this plant. It had rained a lot the last couple of days and I just noticed the rot today. The 5 main colas were all really, really thick. I'm guessing the rot started deep inside the buds then spread. Oh well....this was supposed to be a mold resistant strain. I guess any strain is going to have mold when the humidity is at 80% all the time and its constantly raining. The weather was just too harsh this year. Hopefully I'll have some better luck next year. It was still a lot of fun.

You can clean the bud of mold with a water cure.
It takes away every trace of mold.

I have done it several times and it works perfectly.
As a matter of fact, next time i do it, I will take pictures at every step. Because it seems like not many people believe it.

If you would like instructions let me know

Having just arrived at the "bud rot" lesson yesterday, I would love to hear all about it!

Sure, I'd like some lessons on this water cure. I had never heard of it until I checked this thread. I've got just over 400 grams (wet weight) of molded bud sitting in a big paper bag. I'd love to find a use for it.

I've heard of water curing....not a great idea, it tastes like shit compared to how it should. I'm with DJJ.....chuck it man, it's gross.

ive read a water cure thread on here, with pics and details/steps of how its done...

pros were said to be much cleaner and smoother smoke.

cons were said to be less weigh but more THC to weight ratio, less apealing bud (darker)

if the choices were between having to throw up moldy bud or else have some ugly bud that doesnt taste as good id personally go with having ugly bad tasting bud cuz that sure beats throwing it out in my book

make sure it is mold and not spider web/plant fluff..... I had a buddy chop down a crop and when I saw it, it was nothing more than that. One sad sad :(

no reason to chuck the moldy bud..none..you can make butter or butane hash..any spores are killed in the process

i dont like water cure..makes buds shrink 20-30% more than air dry and jar cure....i would make hash..i would not want to smoke moldy bud..but you can eat it after it has been processed

yeah but if you water cure, the 80-70% sized buds are better than the 0% size buds if you threw them out

what i do is dry it in the dehydrator on high heat yell the out side is crispy. the small hairs of mold and spores dry up and become fragile. so the inside main bud should be green yet and soft but the mold and leaves should me dry and start falling off. i then hitt it with water and break off mold like a water cure. i find drying it super fast first just the out side. helps the water cure.
