buds taste and smell "GREEN"

Ok not sure how to explain this but a friend gave me a few buds of his last grow and although it looks amazing it smells green, like fresh grass clippings and it taste the same way... not good. What makes this happen is it something he did wrong in the cure process? Is there a way to get the rest of the harvest to not turn out the same way? Any help or explanation on what has caused this to happen would be great. Thanks h2ofarmer

Was it soil or hydro? How long ago was it harvested? All my bud smells green until they dry. If its dry, has to be something he grew with or maybe put in jars too soon...??? Otherwise no clue.

Grown in hydro they are about 2 weeks cured now and were completely dry before jarring.

Sounds to me like your buddy did not dry the bud all the way before putting it in the jars for curing. If i were you I would tell your friend on his next grow to do some experimenting while drying and curring. I recently just made this mistake but luckly I had left a few buds out a few more days to dry while putting the rest into jars. When I opened the jar it smelled like fresh cut grass. When I went to the buds that I left drying for an extra like 2 days they smelled GREAT. Just tell your friend to dry his buds out more before he puts them in the jars. He will be glad he did!! STAY HIGH!!!!

I've come to learn the environment you dry it it makes all the difference in smell and taste. If there is any warm light or its hot in the room it will dry to fast and change the smell. I made this mistake drying out some in my veg room.

Best thing to do in my opinion is get a big cardboard box and put a wire or a wire hanger across and hang dry with the box closed. Just poke some holes for air to flow through. Put the box in a closet or a cabinet or something.

Also to fix the ones you have now put some apple peelings or some lemon peeling or some grapes or celery whatever you want in the curing jar and let it sit overnight. The buds will absorb the moisture and it should change the smell and taste.

or it could just be the strain itself.. what strain was it?

Thanks for the help guys ill share the info with my buddy im pretty sure they were completely dry before put in jars I think it might have been dryed way too fast cause the buds are brittle and crispy

Yeah its the curing. If the bud is dried too fast it won't cure properly. If the bud is too dry it won't cure properly.

You can try water curing the bud. I believe you can do this even with dry air cured bud. Just soak it in water for a week, changing the water every day. After seven days dry it out for 24 hours. That will take all the chlorophyll and other solubles out of it. Try it on a small quantity and see if you like it.

That"s what happened. I have done it a couple times. To keep it from happening in the future tell him once he thinks they are dry, put them in paper bags for 3 or 4 days. That slows the drying process down and evens out the moisture in the buds. I do it every time now.
