I've heard bad things about bugs, it just SOUNDS like a bad thing. I woke up this morning and checked my plants, they have barely any diffrence from yesterday and today. Thats about 8 hours with no growth, as i looked closer, i seen a SMALL ass bug fly off the toping of my middle ones soil. And my FIRST plant is also looking LESS healthy than it did. What should i do??????????

Hmm, prolly fruit flies. Get you one of those sticky things you can hang up and that should take care of that.

The plants looking unhealthy probably has more to do with your environment.

Sounds like fungus gnats. I had these guys going after my new White Widows and you have to do two things to get rid of them. First, get some pyrethrum and mix it up in a spray bottle, and spray it all over the top of the soil. This will kill the adults. Then get some BT israelensis (BTi), mix that up carefully, and drench the soil with it. That kills the larvae.

I don't know where you are, but Discount Hydroponics have both a pyrethrum fogger and a pyrethrum aerosol spray called X-Clude that can handle step #1. They also have Gnatrol for step #2. Go to their web site and enter SKU numbers FOGGER or XCLUDE, or GNATQT, to get the descriptions and to order. I found this stuff at my local plant store under different names, so just look for the right chemicals.

Hmm, I wouldn't go spraying chemicals on your plant unless you know exactly what they are. You got a way of posting some pics?

Definitely agree with that. Fungas gnats are only about 2 mm long and have long legs relative to their size (ie. they look like a "normal" gnat). They also like to craw around and dig in the soil (to lay eggs underneath) rather than munching on the leaves. If you run your fingers along the soil to disturb the surface and see more of the little critters flying around you're probably looking at fungus gnats. Apparently the larvae eat root hairs and can be bad news if they develop, but this wouldn't happen overnight. Whatever they are, get rid of them early.

I just looked at em a little closer now and came back here to post really fast. I only can find one now, and its REALLY SMALL but if i had to describe it as ANYTHING then it would be a REALLY SMALL FLY. It flys really slow and exactly what it did was fly from the side of the soil to the top of the plant, started crawling down it, then flew up towards the light and i lost track of it that way, i got it to fly by blowing on the plants.

If i had to guess what it was i would say a Fungus Gnat, this is the closest picture i could find of what i saw, via Google.

I did try the running my finger over the soil thing and nothing happened, but being in the early stages of the little terrors may mean they haven't all hatched yet, According to Google they take up to a week. Also, My question is, Were did they COME from?

Fungus Gnats usually come from soil that is over watered. The eggs may have been laid during the processing of the medium when it was in the factory and the favorable conditions of your growroom just caused these eggs to hatch. Don't believe what you have heard...Pyrethrum, I mean a product that has pure Pyrethrins in it, is gonna be your best defense or offense(depending on how you look at it) against Fungus Gnats. Just raed the label of any product you buy and make sure it contains only Pyrethrum/Pyrethrins which are derived from the Chrysanthemum flower. Sticky Strip suck and are a pain to use in a small growroom. You could also start using Neem Oil in cycles like every 2 days for a week or so or until the problem ceases.
