probably grasshoppers, and supposedly if you spray a mild solution on the leaves they will stay away, but im kinda skeptical, i think i would rather use seven dust, aka diatomaceous earth for that as well, though i don't know if it would work. ..I guess im not the person to ask because when it comes to my plants, i just don't care, i let the grasshoppers get at them because by the time they usually hit (july for me) my plants are growing so big and fast it would take a thousand to cause a dent. if you live in an area where there are LOTS of locusts and hoppers than i can't help you much, we don't have very many here, If you really wanted to take care of it try googling "benifitial preditors, or praying mantis egg sacks, one eggsack when hatched is supposed to put out hundreds of thousands of them and they clean up a whole acre of locusts, i may be wrong though, it's been a long time since i was read up on pests. interestingly wheni got to my first plot yesterday, there was a really big garter snake in my garden, don't know how he got past the "snake fence" but he couldn't get out, and i was glad to have him on guard!!
