Bulkheads ..do we need to add a little silicone?

I 've got my 1/2 bulkheads in and have already drilled the hole and such; was about to install it and get things moving but figured I'd ask if we're suppose to add a little aquarium silicone to the rubber washer to help prevent leaks? I'm installing with the flange and gasket to the inside of the tube as that's what my research has shown to be correct but it seems like it might not be a bad idea to add a little bit of silicone to the gasket before tightening. Seems like aquarium silicone would work the best as most other stuff for kitchen and bathroom have mildew preventives and other chemicals that could either kill the plants and or affect PH. I see that my local HD has some that's for aquariums.

a little sandpaper on the rubber washers will make the sealant stick much better.
Rough up the rubber and plastic.

I never have. If it doesn't leak initially, and there's no stress such as bumping or moving it then it should never leak.

Ask the manufacturer of the bulkheads, I'll bet they will say not to add anything.
