Burying a plant deep

When you bury a plant deep during transplant does it mean you are cutting off the top half of the soil for roots to grow in? I know people say that more roots grow off the buried stem but I'm not sure they always do. Can I Bury a plant say half down a in a pot and it will have enough space to grow good roots?

That’s going to depend on the size of the container and on the size of the plant. I plant deep if necessary. I also use skewers to aerate the entire container between waterings. At chop I have fine roots filling the container even on the top. Bags or buckets. Doesn’t matter.

My pots are either 9 or 12 litres

Much the same as you, I have been led to believe that once you bury the stem the plant will chuck out new roots from the buried stem.

If I do get a stretchy plant and I have to bury it deeper, I always end up with a decent root ball with roots all the way down.

These 3 here have gone super stretchy, for no apparent reason, so I will have plant them deeper, it isn't a big deal.

Stems do root if you bury them, i sometimes bury the 1st two nodes so i can cut them away rooted at a later date.

They certainly do.all those little bumps you see at base of stem roots will grow from them once covered.

No, i wouldn't describe like clones but I've only done it with older plants, they don't have the vigor to start with, normally I'd only cut them off to make a smaller mother and bin the rest of it.

I keep lids on my pots to help keep down humidity.

That's with elevated humidity under the lid.

Eta... I didn't put the lids on the pots until last week!

Tomatoes will do the same thing. Helps build up a big healthy root system

For rooting on the plant...5-6 days after the above post i had reason to do some air layering, while I had the necessary items i done the plant that's recovering (after being lost in the post) it's then going to be a mother and a plant for flowering.

I wrapped a piece of wire around the stem and tightened it enough to restrict the sap but not to cut it off.

Above the choke i removed the 1st nodes, put root it sponges in the ball then closed it around the stem.

11 days later it's (the stem) rooted.

Eta... I'll let it grow a reasonable amount of root before cutting it away, there's no point in cutting it off for it to go back the way.

I posted the above on Saturday.
Today...

I cut below it and re potted it.

Some of you might remember my op on burying stems for future reference.

Air layering seems to root quicker than burying, presumably it's due to the choke but idk for sure.
