I may be a newbie grower but ive made butter for longer than most.
The quality of butter is influenced by all the obvious things. Quality buds make better butter....larf, shake, trim, leaves, you will notice big differences. Potency can be achieved through sheer volume but quality is just like flower...follows same concepts.
Also way too many people cook their bud in the oven. Waste of time, waste of bud, waste of flavors and turpenes. Grind it up into the butter, double boil for 30min. DONE. Period. Then cook into whatever you like. Before you do, strain it through a mesh strainer or coffee filter. You dont need to eat plant to get the benefits.
Decarbing in oven 1st is #1 fallacy in cooking it. Even Oaksterdam teaches this simple better method. Complicated is not better. Nor is heating bud in the oven for hours.
Only goal is to separate active compounds from plant matter with least alteration. Once the water is removesd its done.
Because every strain is different I reco small batches to learn what you want and like. An ounce of quality bud per lb is a good marker. If using lark or shake or weak buds adjust to preference.
Take one stick of butter (1/4lb) and test what you like. Brownies are easiest and fastest to make edibles with butter imo. Sub butter for oil in recipes.
The effects of edibles are hugely influenced by strain. This only happens when the turpenes are not burned off in the oven for hours. Extracts can greatly enhance butter, but arent pure subs because you can get a much stronger terpwne effect with flower.
