Buying a house

I'm going to be buying my first home soon. That means I'll finally have the space for an indoor garden. I'd love it if I could have a hidden room, so there's nothing suspicious for visitors. That probably means unfinished or partly finished basement. It's not like I can list this as one of my requirements when I get a realtor, so does anyone have any tips on things to look for when I start shopping? Thanks

You said it yourself, a basement is the ticket. Don't say anything to the realtor. Just keep looking at properties and you'll find one with a big-ass basement. Buy the house and frame out a room or two. Noone will be the wiser. Best of luck.

I'll probably leave the garden part out, but asking for an unfinished basement should be generic enough. Thanks for your thoughts!

just tell the realtor youre looking to make a meth lab or make crack, im sure shell get ya set up nice.
kidding aside, say youd like to build a small workshop or man cave in the basement, and youd like to start from scratch with an unfinished basement

I guess it probably comes down to the details of the hidden room more than any particular house features. Bigger would mean it'd be less noticeable when 100 sq ft go missing :D

I am going through same thing. I just gave my realtor a list of what I want. Full unfinished basement, garage, min 2 bdrm, even saying you want minimum 100 amp service wont raise an eyebrow. That way they're not showing u a bunch of crap places. I just got rid of my pot hating bitch ex wife n picked up a sweet 3 bdrm with a full basement

more important than the space is the power. i would give the breaker panel a once over in any house you are looking at. not sure how big your grow is going to be but you don't want to get a house and then find out you don't have enough draw on your board. if you can give more specs on the size of your room and the equipment then we can tell you what your draw will be and what you should look for on the panel.

A lot of listings I've seen have 100 amp upgrades done, so it seems pretty reasonable to ask for it. Or after the fact, just as a general improvement. I would be a bit concerned over the room itselfs draw, if it only has a 15A circuit. I'm thinking about 60 sqft total, 2x 600W for flower, maybe 600W total for clone + veg + mothers, then a few pumps and fans. That would put it around 2kW, so ~17A at 120V. That probably means I'd need a dedicated 30A circuit for the room... I doubt I'd find that in most houses :(

Going to start looking at some soon!

Basements are the best. I had 4 20 amp circuits strung through the basement for $500, though I think that guy gave me a pretty good deal. Good luck man.

basements or insulated garages.
I have a finished attic.Three floors up that keeps the stink manageable. I don't have to sweat calling a repairman if the heater or hotwater heater act up since they're in the basement.
