Calcium Deficiency. Need help!

How do you know calcium isn't being locked out due to overdose of N or K? Or calcium is being locked out due to PH lockout? in that case more calcium will not help your problem.. pics are always helpful.

dolomite lime is a good low budget calcium additive but may mess with ph

DID YOU TRY IT??? I dont think u can get any cheeper then that!!!!!
He wasn't talking about cheap, but how fast it works. 2 weeks isn't enough time for lime to do much of anything.

I'd get some for the next grow however. I'm a big believer in using lime.

The *Tums* trick might be his best bet, but two weeks is still not much time for anything to do much.

That stuff is very slow acting and would do him absolutely NO GOOD at this point in his grow.
anything water soluble or made water soluble acts quickly..not slow
what would do him good is calcium for a calcium problem..when crushed down to pulp or powder it acts just as fast as dolomite lime etc..wich is also a powder that can be made water soluble.

lol! I've talked to tomato growers who use a crushed up tums watered into the soil to cure blossom end rot (Calcium Deficiency). My suggestion would be to wait until you get paid and buy a quart of cal-mag. That's one nutrient every cannabis grower should have in their toolbox.;-)
hahaha no shit but isnt tums kinda expensive he only has 5.00 till fri

Yes, but what you are not understanding is that plants don't take up Calcium Carbonate, even when crushed up and watered into the soil. It takes time to be broken down into Calcium ions which can be taken up by the plant's roots. Calcium Carbonate is water soluble but plants can't absorb it, so that is NOT true that "anything water soluble acts quickly".

What is the best cal/mag to use? there is cal/mag plus from botanicare, magic from technaflora, and cal mag from mendocino is the new one. Which one works the best?

imho botanicare is watered down junk..ive said it 100 times before only to watch growers try GH or technaflora, FF trio etc excell each time and switch..
for calmags..technaflora magical and GH organic cal-mag + are the best calmags imho..
there cheaper than most and last really stretch a lot further than botanicare..
i used to run side by sides with that stuff..
liquid karma is just a watered down version of the GH floralicious plus as well.
but if your looking for a cure all..get a thing of superthrive

ok first of all your right in a sense, it does need to be broken down..thats what your doing by making it water soluble..
grab 2 cups of bat guano powder, mix it in a gal jug and pour..you will fry that plant over night..so thats slowly?
i think not.

second..your not feeding the plantz roots man, for feeding the biology in the soil etc.
they in turn feed your roots..
so your not breaking it down for your roots at all..
by making it powder, then breaking it down with water(water soluble) it will have some instant results..nothing major..
but if his plantz already cal def..well, its going to take at least a min of a week for it to even come out of it or show signs of cure anyway..so how can you say that you "know" shells etc(the most calcium riddle shit on the planet! made from calcuim) can not simply be broken down?

honestly i think the word your looking for is chelated. and hes looking for a free alternative correct? or did i read it wrong?
if he had money i would of told him to get superthrive and call it a day. but thats just me..
lets agree to disagree.
cheers

Big Sky. I still have one more question about calcium. I was just looking into which one to buy and the CaMg from general hydryoponics advertises that its calcium is made up of natural sources, and not calcium nitrate. does that mean other cal/mag is calcium nitrate and is inferior to the GH product? I gotta say "natural" sounds a lot better than "nitrate" . click here is the blog -----> http://www.generalhydroponics.com/blog/2009/06/23/general-organics-camg/

I'm not challenging or disagreeing with you, simply stating fact. If you'd like I can put up several links to back up everything I say. First off, you can't compare bat guano to oyster shell. Certain organic nutrients (sources) are available at different rates to plants, bat guano being one of the quickest and most potent organic ferts. Oyster shell, dolomite lime and hydrated lime are relatively slowly available to plants because they must be broken down, not just into a soluble form by mixing it in water. That only does part of the trick. I believe you are misunderstanding what I'm saying. Calcium Carbonate, which is mostly what shells are comprised of, must first be broken down by the beneficial bacteria in the soil before it can be taken up by the plant's roots. Will crushing up oyster shell and watering it in give him any noticeable results at this stage of the ball game? I highly doubt it. Happy growing.:joint:

actually you can,, sea bird and bat guano ..if you look in that ol bag, is full of bits of shell from sea dwelling meals they eat on the regular wich in turn give you calcium in your bat guano teas etc..i'm sure the digestive workings are helping the breakdown but its loaded with the stuff..
i use guanos for all my soil organics or guano based nutrients..
i dont get cal def so its obviously doing the trick..

regardless of what we think, were all here to help right? cheers doc..

exactly..you want natural as you can get ...
the gh organic is prob my personal favorite and superthrive is a great thing to have as well.it will ward off future problems and sup a few minerals you need on the regular..it will help plantz combat heat problems and illness as well.
in my last run i went with gh 3 part, gh organic cal mag, floralicious plus, koolbloom powder (but thats was hydro)
it really rocked there socks off..gh has some really well put together nutrients..
def go gh organic cal mag..its cheaper than most to at around 16-17$.
ive even used half or 3/4 of the rec dose and stretched it a long way with great results.
