California Apartment

Hello. I am patient of medicinal marijuana in the state of California. Seeing as in I can legally grow I am going to take advantage. Im moveing into an apartment in California, from texas. Even tho it is legal for me to grow I want to keep this stealth so I am going to keep it mainly in my closet. Im just wondering, what are some ways that apartment growers are sucsessfully ventilating their grow closets without cutting into the walls and cealings of your rented apartment's closet walls? I have heard of doors that have been modified. Can anyone show me an example or diagram of a door which would properly ventilate an apartment closet? Any other Ideas?

kinda hard to ventilate. i just keep a constant flow of fresh air through a series of fans. i think thats good enough for a small grow. its been working good for me. check out my first grow. it started in a closet.

Sorry that people come in and don't give too many specifics and say "Oh My Grow is here! *LINK LINK LINK*". There are many of things you can do for ventallation, but you will need 2 things. Air Intake and Exhaust.

You can cut holes in doors if you want, or go to home depot and buy a replacement door to use on your closet. I don't know of anything prefabricated. Oscillating fans are awesome also.

You might also want to look into cooltubes, coolable reflectors, Ceramic Metal Halides, and Inline fans. These all can reduce heat and ventilate a room.

Hmm so in my mind I picture having a closet somewhere in the range of 3ftx 7ftx 8ft tall. Maybe more maybe less. So if I were to get a different door(considering it is an apartment after all) and lets say I put a powerful centrifugal fan somewhere in the bottom corner of the door for intake. For this size maybe something in the 300's or so CFM? Then at the top corner have like another centrifugal fan for exhaust facein outward. Or do I need a blower? Then at the back the closet(faceing plants and door) have an oscillating fan for room air circulation and stress on plants. Would that work? I know thats allot so Ill put a little diagram of what im thinking. Also the room would be air tight and exhaust put up to carbon filter for no smell leakage. I could also get Co2 enrichment and if need be a portable ac unit for in case temps get to high? Would all this work?

Seems lik a lot of work.. why not buy an all done growbox that is stealth and handles all the odors and has the fans all in it already

i've got a little closet grow going in cali as well, have a 400w mh/hps light in there, with 3 (inexpensive $$ 15-20 ) fans going. as long as you're moving the air around and keeping the room cool enough you should be fine.

i have those three fans, one located near the plants shooting up from the ground at my light, one shooting from about 3 feet high against the wall at the plants, and another fan taking air from the grow corner facing away from the plants and shooting it out towards the other end of the closet.

like i said, as long as you have good circulation the temps shouldn't get too hot, and you will have just what you need without any modification really.

also -- the light is really bright and therefore it looks like an alien is landing inside your closet... so i've hung a black comforter/blanket inside the sliding closet doors. then i have that on a little string pulley system so i can keep it cracked and open and not trap the hot air inside.

hope this helps!!

I got a grow going in my closet. One 400 watt MH right now. Four plants. I leave the door open during the day. Keep two oscillating fans going in there at all times to keep air circulated. Temps never get above 82. Yea, the light is bright as fuck, so I hung up two sheets over my windows to keep the light from getting out. As long as you keep the bedroom door closed, close off some vents you can sacrifice, and keep the a/c at a decent rate, it should work. No need to cut any holes or anything. Oh yea, my humidity levels stay good to.

Check out my grow in my sig...

Id rather avoid the leaving of the door open if possible just to avoid the smell. But if I had these three fans in there anda co2 tank they would sufficiently get enough air circulation, co2, and in los angeles probably maintain temps?

To avoid the smell? Do you have roomy or something? It's going to smell whether you close it or leave it open. This is why I said keep the door shut to the bedroom. Trust me, if you don't get some good air flow going in there, your going to have major heat problems. Fans alone won't help. Fans are good for keeping the air circulating and fresh. You will need cool air in the closet to keep it from getting to hot.

Not worried about the roommate, but am about apartment management and neighbors. I know I have a medicinal pass to grow.... but allot of places frown upon that. And Id rather my room not constantly smell of weed for anyone else coming inside if possible. So too much light wont escape if I leave the door open? And you dont think that door idea will work supposing I leave the room holding the closet's window open most of the time?

My plants have been growing great with the door open just a bit. And when it's time for them to sleep, I close the door and they do their thing. Check out my sig.

The closet has a window? Hmm, I'd imagine leaving the window open might help and then again it might not. Seems like it would be hard to keep the humidity levels constant. I dunno man, it's a weed we are growing here, so it will adapt. But it's better to try and give them the best conditions.

No, theres no window in the closet but in the room which holds the closet. Im thinking that my best bet would be to just keep the door to the entire room air tight and sealed, and locked. Keep the window cracked thats in the room. Keep the closet door open just a little bit and have some fans going in the closet(one at plants, one at light) and maybe an overhead fan in the room itself just to circulate air with that open window. I guess if the window isnt to close to the neighbors, that they wont smell it.

Exactly, that's a good idea. Like I said, just keep the bedroom door shut and you should be fine. You will also need to put up some blankets or a couple sheets over your windows to prevent the neighbors from seeing what looks like the sun, in your bedroom - LOL!

Ok, question (I read Widow Makers outstanding how-to): Does it really smell that much during the first 2 months? I figured I would be able to do something similar with only 2 plants (1?), then hook up a carbon filter towards the flowering stage. I'm also debating on changing lights and the wattage I should use.

Finally, since I'd be doing a home/stealth grow, do I really have to let the plant get REALLY large?....or can I can 'custom tailor' the size to fit a) My personal needs and b) my closet?

I'm not trying to bogart the thread, I'm just trying to figure out if I run over and put the seeds on a paper towel now or if I have to wait.....which just means another day without weed.......

ive seen people just put an inline fan at the top of there closet and run small ducting to the bottom where they have a small carbon filter. it circulates the air internally and some people have to put a small window ac unit in there to keep temps down

Mine are almost a month old and I swear I can smell it when I walk into my apt. But then the smell goes away after I've been home for a sec. So who knows, shit could all be in my head. But they definitely do smell if you take a good wiff of them.
