California gun sales soar, gun deaths plummet, "common sense" absent

More guns. Less gun violence.

The obvious "common sense" gun law that is needed is to sell more guns!

"Gun deaths and injuries have dropped sharply in California, even as the number of guns sold in the state has risen, according to new state data.
Dealers sold 600,000 guns in California last year, up from 350,000 in 2002, according to records of sale tallied by the California Attorney General's office.

During that same period, the number of California hospitalizations due to gun injuries declined from about 4,000 annually to 2,900, a roughly 25 percent drop, according to hospital records collected by the California Department of Public Health.

Firearm-related deaths fell from about 3,200 annually to about 2,800, an 11 percent drop, state health figures show."

It's a recession, getting decent rounds illegally costs money.

People just make sure they hit their target now instead of spraying everywhere ;)

still trying to understand that whole correlation and causation thing, eh desert rat?
That's strange, his statistical data seems to disprove your correlations so far.

It is kinda weird (no offense DD) seeing DesertDude get the upper hand on Buck with statistics to prove it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't California have some of the tightest restrictions of any state?

You could argue this data tells us that despite strict gun regulations people still get to purchase and use guns as they please. Also, less people get hurt when regulations are in place regardless of whether or not more firearms are purchased.

Without further investigation I don't think one can definitively say what is causing the reduction in injuries and death.

desert rat called california a "gun free zone" when it better suited another argument he was trying (and pathetically failing) to make.

shameless rat is shameless.

Absolutely correct. What you can say with certainty is that more guns DOES NOT cause more gun deaths.

Murders and violent crimes are on a downward trend all over the world (with exceptions of course). I'd like to think society is maturing, not that our dear leaders have figured out the correct combination of laws to make us behave.

It's like a condom, better to have one and not need it than need one and not have it.

"Strict regulation" is a relative term. To a Nevadan, CA'd gun regs are strict. To a Bostonian they are loose. cn

as a resident of mass, i am not allowed to purchase or own firearms without a license from the local chief of police. he. denies. EVERYONE.

and, SOMEHOW, firearms still account for over 65% of murders in the state (nearly twice the rate of texas). it's almost as if people commit crimes without permission from the government. weird.

$350 might be a deposit on a new AR15, most of them sell between $799 and $1800. Those prices were before the mad rush created by the stupidity of our liberal friends. It's a GREAT time to be a firearms dealer or manufacturer.

btw, it was a gun nut who allowed her kid access to massacre tools, not a liberal. at least be accurate with your butthurt.

Price and availability hasn't been much of a factor for these killers. And now there are truckloads of "assault rifles" in the hands of inexperienced chuckleheads and undiagnosed psychotics, that might not have been purchased without the zealots calling for a ban.

While the school shooting may be responsible for a portion of the increased sales, a majority of it is due to the calls for a ban. Own it.
