Hi Everyone - First grow here. I needed to be able to supply myself with bud without having to worry about buying on the streets or about the quality of supply. My goal is complete stealth. It'll be in a house with lots of visitors so it needs to just blend in, not make noise, heat, light, smell, etc. I learned everything from reading online and thought maybe others can learn from my approach and also offer advice along the way.
Enclosure: Lowes/Kobalt Tall Garage Cabinet. It's 6 ft tall x 30 inches with by 20 inches deep. Hopefully big enough for two plants at a time. I chose it because it was easily available, about the right size, and doesn't stand out. It's pretty plan looking and it also has a lock on it.
The box is lined with Roxul insulation for sound proofing and also to keep some heat in. I'm growing in a basement and temps can be kind of cool. On top of the Roxul, I used Panda plastic with white side in for reflective properties and also to keep light out.
My biggest surprise is that it really wasn't very lightproof on the seams. I had to use a cut up bike tube to line the door gaps/hinges and lots of black duck tape to seal other gaps, but it's looking good now.
Ventilation: I cut in a 12" x 12" darkroom shutter for intake and put a Panasonic Whisper Quiet 150 CFM bathroom fan on the top. I'm using 6" insulated duct work. I will add a homemade carbon filter under the fan next. So far, it's silent and moves air nicely. I tried inline fans and they were way too noisy not to be noticed. You actually need to put an ear next to this fan to make sure it's working. I'm also using ONA gel linen scent in the room to mask odors.
Lighting: California Lightworks 200w Solarflare, full cycle edition. Selected for quality, made in the USA, and 5w diodes. It's my only light. I didn't want to worry about heat or lots of extra electric bills. This gets good reviews and I'm excited to see how it does.
Seeds: 60 day Lemon Autoflower from DNA Genetics. I picked them because I wanted my first grow to go quick and get some nice buds in as little time as possible. I'm also learning a bit during this grow and this should be a forgiving strain.
Seeds were germinated in a sponge and planted straight into 3 gallon buckets of FFOF soil.
Currently, my only concern is temps. They're a little cool in the basement and the LEDs don't put off any measurable heat. I put in a 65 ceramic reptile heater and that brought temps up 3-4 degrees, but I'm still only around 64 degrees. Humidity is pretty low. 30-40%.
The seeds were put in sponges on Monday and today (day 6), I noticed they just broke through the soil. Tiny little girls, but at least they're viable.
