I line in ny, and as I listen to the morning news, it was reported that california wants to tax medical marijuana users.

Yes, but I think that theres an implication involved here as the federal gov does not recognize the legality yet. If you pay the tax, could the feds arrest you as you've already admitted your guilt?

If ya pay the taxes the government wont count that as guilt. They probaly just figure if its going on the might as well tax it. If the tax it that must mean that it is ok. Here in canada they tax all the seeds now. The government is just greedy. They want to tax anything in site.

I'm sorry, maybe I wasn't clear on this, but the tax is a state tax, not a federal tax. Federally speaking pot is still illegal.

well, I'm not saying I'm w/ the state of cali by any means, but maybe they have to tax medical marijuana and use that tax money to grow more? not that it really costs much to grow anyways... just a thought...

My thoughts are that this could demonstrate, on a real life scale, the potential tax revenues marijuana could bring in to our greedy government. If the state can generate mounds of tax revenues, it could open some eyes around the country.

Ive been waiting for this to happen...being a Cali resident and medical patient...I think its good...we need more governing of the medical pot. Maybe if Cali can show that medicinal pot can be governed properly and it doesn't get out of hand the Feds might warm up to the idea.

i couldnt have said it better. its all about the money and when that aspect is realized through its materialization in cali people will be down. my only fear is that they';ll fuck with the budd and make it addictive and put chems in it and shit.

The government would never grow it. It would have to be grown by private companies under strict guidelines by the government. I imagine it would be much like how alcohol and its manufacture, sales and licensing are controlled.
so 2 years ago an Oakland cannabis club attempted to pay taxes. the money was taken, then the club was RAIDED. i am already paying sales tax if i purchase meds from one particular club. if i donate and receive any recovery costs i will have to claim this. the clubs will have to pay taxes causing consumer prices to rise. this is turn will cause an increase in all around weed prices in Calif.
will the stae take taxes and then get hassled by the feds? are the feds going to raid the state for collecting illegal funds? will the government take over all control?
