Calling all air cooled hood users...

how close do you guys manage to get your lamp to your 'girls' ?

im about to put my 400 hps in for flower, recently topped a plant and now ready for the hps to do its thing.

I currently have 4 foot of useable space above....

I can get my cool tube 6-8" above the tops. A tad closer with a MH in there since it runs a little cooler.

excellent news ,i have searched but theres just too much crap on the net, a sea of confused experts, lol

incidentally, how does the running cost of a MH compare to cfl/hps ?

I've got a 600 watt MH in a cooltube and I can let my plants basically touch the glass without burning. Although I keep em a few inches away. Hell even with my HPS in a air-cooled hood with glass I can get them very close with out burning. That's why they hae high velocity fans. I keep my babies as close as I can to the light.

MH=HID Both hps and MH use alot of power compared to cfls. Also it's not the bulb butyour ballast that draws the power so if you use a digital ballast I imagine the cost should be the same when switching from MH to hps.
