Camera advice

Need a better (but affordable) digi camera guys. Or maybe I suck at using this one.

I lost my Cannon piece of shit 4mega pixel and have been using this Nikon ever since. The Cannon rocked and took really good photos considering its age and price point. With my grow lights on or off it was fine. The flash didn't make the fresh white hairs too bright...it just worked.

This Nikon blows. Here are some pics. Maybe there is a setting I don't know how to use.

Lights off but flash on...blah...terrible

Lights on it's fine but the details like green leaves and white hairs are lost in the yellow/orange. My brother is a film school grad. I can't talk to him about $200 cameras. I need some input.

Lights off flash on...here I'm trying to get a trichome shot. Two plus weeks into flower you know. I really want to show some people the sticky stuff but this shot looks like shit.

Atleast the grows looking nice:bigjoint:
The grow is finally where I want it. Used nutes I've never used and had majore problems. The leaves are almost back to normal. Color was off and extensive leaf tip curling. I was cooking them.

As far as the camera....for my needs I really need something to take decent photos. I don't need a camera for photography per se. I use my camera for taking pics of my grows and fishing out in the pacific. I will not take a $1000 camera 70nm off shore bongsmilie

I'm thinking for under $300 there has to be a camera with a decent macro setting and some nice adjustments or filters. Is there something out there for $300 that can get me started and I can buy lenses as I go?

Say $300 for a 35mm set up but I can spend more for new lenses. I really want to be able to represent my grows as they look to me. Right now that clearly is not happening.

In good light this is as good as it gets with my current camera. Not bad, but that's with natural light. The camera isn't doing any work here. Any camera can take this pic.

You can't bake a cake without cracking a few eggs......

No one likes to hear the truth if it makes them uncomfortable, or in the case of a few left wingnuts ... foolish.

I just tell it like it truly is, not as I WISH it to be.

So here I am telling you to get an SLR.

Look at the Panasonic line..... I've had one of the earlier gen's, and it is still taking great pics. Zeiss lens with 18-24X telephoto and macro to practically touching the subject with the lens... for about 300 bucks.

I'm a professional photographer and I only use Nikon cameras. I've been into photography for over 20 years and I love Nikon equipment. What model is your camera? There is a bit of a learning curve with some of the DSLR's. If you are inexperienced with DSLR's it's best to get one with point and shoot programs as well as manual settings. That way you can get some really nice shots without having to think too much about it. As your skill increases you can start using some of the manual features. bongsmilie

Hey Doc, there is no question that there is some user error here. This camera is your typical pocket size that should do what I'm trying to do. It's probably a tad dated. It's a Coolpix L4.

See if you can get a firmware update for it. I don't have a lot of experience with Nikon's point and shoot cameras but I am told they are really good cameras. Your pics actually don't look all that bad except for a little blur. You may be moving as the camera is snapping the picture or you didn't focus first. Make sure you are focusing and that the camera confirms the focus before you release the shutter. Grow room pics are really hard to take especially with hps lighting. Hope this helps my friend. :bigjoint:

My amazing intelligence told me to hit this button called menu. Ever heard of it? :bigjoint:

It has a white adjustment and a lighting source adjustment. My lights aren't off just yet so the flash photos will come next. But these look much better to me.

Before

12/8

After

12/15...they have grown a bit too bongsmilie

Still not enough white detail

Check out the Canon Powershot A480 Digital

It's cheap $200 but has lots of great features, including super-macro - for those killer bud closeups.

Honestly I would recommend looking on eBay for a decent Canon Digital Rebel XTi or similar. You can find great deals on them. I used a Canon EOS 20D for many years, upgraded from the 300D Digital Rebel. You can't go wrong with Nikon/Canon's entry-level DSLR's these days.
