Can a simple ass setup work?

Here is my suggestion. Get at least two of these 4x8 panels. They are pretty strong. They are light and easy to cut with a knife. Cut 4 pieces for sides. what ever height and width you want.. Paint all sides that face the inside white, or better still line with milar. (cheap shiny stuff). Stand these up around what ever you are growing. It is also easy to make a light stand out of white pvc pipe. Something like this will make just a little light super efficient.

It also works to make an A frame fixture out of this stull and blow a box fan through it.

So i didnt feel like paying for expensive LED's so i decided to go with a 600w hps and maybe supplement 2 80w LED bulb lamps with uv and ir.
Anyways... to the setup!

So im thinking of growing right in the corner of a room in my apt...no grow tent, i have a ceiling fan, a decent size oscalating fan with a timer that has 3 speeds, the house ac, and windows in the room obviously. Im going to use panda film on the 2 corners of the wall and add panda film to one more side leaving one side still open...
I figure some light might be escaping that side but thats what the 2 LED bulbs will help with. Plus, i dont think i will have to worry about ventilation with this setup as it has the opening.
The space is a rectangle about 5x4xCeiling.
Only plan on growing 6 plants the most since im a CA prop 215 patient.
Will it work or am i crazy?
yes it can work

but u need to change some things 1 the film on the 2 open sides (not walls ) u do need to hang film .......just account for the planters and the height of the light
means when u put up the film keep it from touching the ground completely and keep the light slightly above the film .......this will make a air flow path ...cool air will come in and the hot air will raise out.....u do need a small fan in there blowing around to remove IR heat from the leaves

other then that just rem to try to not to smoke around the plants as the smoke can clog up the plants

i started off with CFLs.....if u really want a good plant u should invest in a 300w led one of the generics will work for like 100 bucks.......if u like it then u can upgrade the gear to something better and use the old stuff as support gear if u make monsters

under 100$ and really silent. Of course you can build something larger and use some hps. But you will need a good inline fan

I haven't studied your whole thread but see no reason not to go for it you may be surprised at the outcome
So im doing it already and definitey loving the results so far. I'm running a 600w Mh/HPS and the temp goes low to mid 70's at night and about mid 80's when the lights are on. The humidity fluctuates between 37-50.
I have the carbon filter and vent set up to pull out air but havent even had to run it yet. I keep the ceiling fan on and occasionally run the house ac which cools the room nicely. Got 5 clones of Alien OG to mess around with and LST and supercrop.

I will also be adding another 600 watt HPS for flower and supplement some LED corn lights that are like 60 cash on Amazonimage.jpegimage.jpeg

Heres some pics DONT MIND the lines... magnetic ballast lol

In the pic they've been vegging for about a week after transplant...its been about a week since and they have all gotten much bushier and taller...im going to keep them vegging for another 2 weeks then switch

To cool a 600w HPS you will need strong exhaust fan, this will likely suck in the sides of a setup like you are describing. If you can form a panda film tent that can withstand the air pressure needed to cool the light, and provide 100% darkness, it should work fine.
100% darkness is a meme. I have 2 plants in flower less than 2 meters away from 600W MH

It's going to smell up the place if you ask me. If I turn off the fans/filters in my tents in the basement, the entire house smells 30 min later. I have to run my exhaust 24/7 and it's not a big grow. Even my phresh carbon filters have a hard time keeping up. I can smell it outside sometimes after being scrubbed.
I can agree with that to an extent. The only part I disagree on is smelling it even after scrubbing. Something is wrong if you smell it after scrubbing.

I run a filter on my grow space and a second one in the room outside the grow.

I got a deep cycle battery and inverter to run the scrubber if the power goes out. My lower went out during a grow with some of the stinkiest plants I have ever grown. It smelled the place up bad.

Just grow it and have fun. Your setup looks better than my previous ones did and they produced just fine. I don't do half of what people say because its overwhelming just starting out, take your time. As you grow and progress you will get better supplies for for tue grow you want to do. You will most likely get something to smoke in the end anyways, well unless the plant dies, something I haven't faced yet and hope that I nor anyone else ever faces that.

Yeah, nothing is wrong with the setup. I use phresh filters and fans on speed controllers. In the big tent I have a 950cfm filter on a 440 fan and at peak flower you can still smell it a little outside the house where it vents into a window well, not to mention everything I grow is pretty damn loud.

I guess I'm anal about it. Non med state and all. Leaking odor is bad.

If it bothers or worries you any they make ozone generators for duct work. Add it to the exhaust side and eliminate all odor. The plus side of doing it on the exhaust is it going outside. Ozone can be dangerous.

Nah, not worried about it, just a footnote. I was just making note that running in a tent vs an open room is a little easier to control smell wise and If I can get a hint of smell outside after scrubbing in a 3 story house, an apartment with an open room might be a little more difficult to control. It's nothing outrageous at all, just a hint if you are standing on the window well at peak flower. I could only imagine trying to grow in apartment. I'm with you though, I'm trying to achieve zero residual smell.

I don't think I would want to in an apartment. All it takes is one time.

It will happen if a person grows long enough. Power outages and other things can cause smell to get out.

No way to avoid it really. It happens.
