Can HID lights from Lowes work

I heard that street lights dont have the right spectrum for growing, would a bulb made for growing be much better?

Grow specific bulbs have added light spectrum colors more helpful to plants, but yes a Lowe's HID will grow and well. I actually use a standard MH from Lowe's for the first 3 or 4 weeks or so of veg, before switching to my Hortilux. Don't want to burn it out early or loose output. For a beginner, no worries not using a grow specific bulb.

Works great. They are magnetic so they'll make some buzzing but I have one for supplemental light while vegging with a MH for the added spectrum. I've also gone right through the whole process from germ to harvest with a single 150W HPS. Stick 1-2 small plants under it and don't let them get taller than a foot max. You'll get decent yeild this way and the buds will be nice instead of stringy. You can keep these lights very close and make sure you do to keep the plant short!
