you can do anything you'd like, it's your plant after all.. it is common to cut off one nug or so to see how it's coming along, check for potency, etc, before committing to chopping the entire plant down..
it's also very common for some nugs to finish earlier than other nugs, therefore you can chop the buds that look ready and leave the rest to finish maturing properly..
just make sure to only chop one or two small buds that look ready and leave as many leaves and all as you can to help the plant to continue producing foods via photosynthesis.. :)

lol, no problem m8, that's what i'm here for..
i made a lil small drying box that i like to use for small buds like what you're going to have.. you don't want to have a fan blowing directly on the bud or it will dry too fast and it won't have a chance to get rid of all of the clorophyl inside of it..
of course everyone has their own drying methods, so i'll just tell you what i do and what works for me.. like i said, i have a small box that i cut a snall say like two inch slot in the bottom of it, and i just so happened to have a piece of styrofoam that fit in the box.. the box i use came from my phresh filter.. i simply stand the buds up on the styrofoam using by keeping a small piece of stem on them.. i then place a small fan about two feet or so away from the hole that i have cut in the bottom of the box and turn it on slowly and lightly.. sometimes i don't even use the fan to be honest..
i'll leave the buds in the small box like this for ... idk, it all depends on the size of the buds and the humidity levels when i'm drying and several other factors as well... but here's what i like to look for.. when you first cut the bud, you'll feel how wet it feels to the touch.. once the outside of the bud no longer really feels wet to the touch but rather dry, i will move them into jars for the curing..
now, some people like to say that the dry their buds till the stems no longer bend when bent, but rather snap... i tried this on my first harvest, and i found that the buds were way to dry if i waited that long honestly.. once they go into the jars, the first couple of days are very important.. i like to check them every few hours to make sure that they aren't getting too moist again.. if they go into the jars too soon, and by leaving the lids on them for too long, all of the moisture that was in the buds will sweat out and the buds can become very wet, even wetter then they were when you started.. if this happens, i like to take them out of the jars, and lay them on some newspaper for a few hours till they dry up to the touch again, and then back into the jars once again.. just keep an eye on them.. every couple of hours you'll have to open the jars and burp them, which is basically just exchanging all of that moist air out of the jars and giving them some new drier air for them.. burp the jars several times a day for the first week or so, after which you can burp them only once a day down to not having to at all after about a three or four weeks or so..

another method that people use is to hang their buds on a string instead of using a box like i do.. either way works fine tbh, it's just prefference and what works best for you.. but whatever method you use, make sure to keep them out of any sunlight, and surely keep them away from your grow light as light degrades thc..
now, if you're only wanting to sample a small bud, there's really no reason to jar and cure them, but believe me when i say that the difference between a properly dried and cured bud is night and day, it really is.. the smell, taste and flavor will all be much stronger through a proper cure..
if you just dry and smoke the bud, i'm sure it's more than likely going to taste rather green, and harsh, but don't think that the finished product is going to be the same way.. it's just that it hasn't had a proper cure, and once it has had one, the difference will really blow you away..

i know i tend to write a book sometimes, lol, sorry about that, but i hope it helps you some m8.. and happy smoking.. :)

Buds aren't at their best till they've been properly dried and cured which takes a couple of weeks or more. But you can quick dry a few buds to try right now. Like racerboy says, there's a lot of ways to skin this cat. None of the methods is as good as proper curing.

I chop the bud up quite fine with a razor blade, put it between two pieces of paper towel and place it somewhere pretty warm, like under a close light. Done in 30 mins.
