Can I control the size of my plants by...

using smaller pots? Even if I have a breed that naturally grows big if i limit the size of the pot can i limit the size of the plant?

You'd be surprised just how much plant can grow out of a 4" pot. topping and training are probably the most reliable methods of size control.

still, you'd be surprised how much a smaller pot limits plants size...
same genetics in different pots (one big one small) under same lighting will be predictable (one bigger plant one smaller plant)

I don't think you want to use the pot to control your size. I would go for topping, fimming, LST etc...
You will need to do all those things to keep from getting root bound anyway ...so you should use
them ask the techniques they are.

Top it: to double your structure and slow vert growth
FIM it: to fill out all your nodes and slow vert growth
LST it: to shape it horizontally for optimal space production (increased yield)

Use fluoros for cuttings, clones, mothers and vegging. Your lighting schedule can slow or increase
stretch. So can sleep period temps.

I have a little bonsai garden that I toy with, I fully understand the concept of miniaturization. I was just saying that training and trimming will provide more predictable results with weed.

Yeah, you can grow some pretty big plants in small pots if you feed them right. Just look at a hydro setup, look at the root mass, and imagine it all packed in a small pot. It takes alot of roots in a small space to become rootbound. On my first grow I used 2 gallon pots and ended up with 4 foot monsters, after vegging them for like 6 weeks, and topping them a few times. When I pulled the roots out of the pot, I was surprised that it wasn't super-rootbound. The roots filled the whole pot, but there was plenty of room for more growth. I probably could've grown the same sized plants in a one gallon pot, maybe smaller.

I accidentally ended up with a 4 foot plant in a 6" pot the first time I grew a sativa. At the time I didn't consider repotting cuz I just kept figuring it was going to stop.

look up fddblk"whatever hes name is" he grows huge plants in small pots just by giving them small dosages of water regulary...check out hes pics. your best method as mentioned above would be to top your plant and then to just prune
