My X-Box 360 was running perfectly for some time now and I was using it to watch media files from my computer... My network settings have not been changed at all and yet my 360 is now refusing to recognize that my computer is in the same network...

I've run the test connection several times now and it wont find my computer... Anybody know anything that could help..?

I am admittedly Technotarded and have no idea what might have happened or what my options are to fix it...

Why the fuck are you asking us? Maybe go to xbox.com i bet they will answer your question or call 800 4 my xbox.

Better yet take that as a sign xbox blows and game makers have yet to be able to come out with a decent game since halo 3. All they can do is come out with the same game and slap this year at the end of it. Throw that piece of shit away or sell it.

Seriously reboot the entire system including the router and or modem or both. You will be fine.

Hmmm...sounds like an issue with the computer...are you sure you have it still set up to connect with the network...you could try resetting your router...that is what I do...my husband is a cable internet phone technician for a larger company, and things just stop working somehow, and all the technical knowledge I have gathered from him is that you should always try resetting the router and restarting everything you are trying to do.

I think missnu is onto something. An internal protocol isn't accepting a handshake. could be an internal password problem. My modem developed those problems a week ago, and (with a friend's help, because i am to computers as a penguin is to aerobatics) resolved a password issue, and ... here i am! cn

I'm 26 and seriously Technotarded myself CN... Which is fucked cause when I was young I could program shit on a c64... I remember being able to work a computer with MS-Dos no graphic user interface, I remember I used to understand all sorts of shit... hell I bet most the people in here never even heard of Xtree... I should be embarrassed with the fact that I'm not as competent with computers now as I was when I was 7...

Can both the Xbox and computer access the internet? This will at least verify the basic network setting are valid. Are your devices attached DHCP or static/manual addresses?

They both have access to the internet... and if you could please treat me like I'm a complete idiot and explain DHCP to me in the simplest words possible I would greatly appreciate it...

Well at least we know the Xbox and computer have functioning network cards.

When your devices are setup to connect to a network via DHCP means that your device will get its IP address, subnet mask and gateway address from your router. DHCP is what most people use. Knowing if you use DHCP or not would help in determing if you have an IP issue or not. Since both devices can connect to the internet I am assuming your network is good and you may have your media server software off or something on the computer. I use a PS3 so am not too sure on what to look for with the Xbox. Maybe you have media server connections turned off?

I am heading into a session so I probably rambled too much.
