Well then I'm going to buy some seeds, could you provide a tutorial link as I know photos and not like autos but I'm having trouble finding instructional growing information.
The only difference is that you decide when the plant flowers. Some switch the lights to 12/12 early, some late, some even 12/12 from seed. Photoperiods are much easier for a new grower because a mistake in veg can be corrected, whereas with an auto there are no timeouts/corrections

My problem is when to switch from veg to flower and how long is veg, I'm guessing flower is about the same as auto but how long would I let the plant stay in veg. One week, 3 weeks ?

Flowering is the same for AUTO's and PHOTO's.

VEG depends on the size of plant you want at flip. For reference, to VEG a plant to about a 2' x 2' footprint will take me 9 - 10 weeks. And you can get 2 plants that size in a 2 x 4.

Consider the strain also. Does it stay more compact or stretch like mad. Veg till the nodes are no longer evenly spaced if you like. Grow a few more smaller plants or grow 2 nice ones.

Depending on strain it might still stretch a fair amount when you flip to 12/12. I vegged too long on a apple fritter (too tall) and ended up having to bend over a foot of it to the other side. Worked great though because i had room in the tent.

Look for shorter stocky indica or hybrid strains. Some of them sativas like to grow pretty tall for a 6ft tall tent.

To put it very simply , in most cases you would go to flowering schedule when a plant has vegged to 1/3 to 1/2 the size you want it to be at maturity . Most strains I've grown will double in size during flower , some triple , and a few sativas even more .

How long that takes is dependent on strain and care .

The old rule was almost waist height flip them but that really only works if you have the height i veg a minimum of at least 4 weeks to a couple of months depending on what im growing if it was something tall and sativa then i wouldnt veg more than 2 weeks wheres the more pure indicas are slow growing and barely stretch so u gotta grow them to your ideal hieght then flip em honestly minus the light photoperiod change photos are so much easier ul see there way more forgiving too with autos one major fuck up and thats it photos give you more wiggle room for mistakes

This is 2 plants in a 2x4x6ft tall tent. Last time it was an accident because i vegged too long. As they grow thru the trellis just bend the the main stalk over towards the other side. Just keep training towards the other side.

Or, you could build a cabinet and keep a mother in veg and take clones from her… Sea Of Green. Maximize your space…

I am running 4 photos in a 2x4 with 8 foot ceiling height, using earth boxes. You could go with 2 larger plants and have great results too. I just wanted to see some variation in the phenos.

Good to know, after growing two autos I want to switch to photos and I'm reading about cloning as well.

You’ll be glad you did. Autos are fine and they can produce some good smoke. They are however, like temperamental toddlers. Photos offer a more uniform growing experience. Not always, but typically. Any grow will keep you on your toes, that’s why we do it right ;) Learn something with every run and you’re golden.
