I have a 600w 240v lumatek digital ballast that seems to be freaking out. When i plug the power cord into the ballast the strip next to the ground wire throws sparks. I was wondering if i could just clip the receptacle and the end off the power cord and just worenut them together? Can this be done safely?
Pics... Ill try to post a video idk if it will work tho.

thanks in advance for any info

Hi,
I know someone who has mess around with dig alot, and that manufacture too. The grow stores around here just simply replace them because of the warranty they come with. Lumatek establishes that with their retailers. I would go back first and see what your supplier would do. The ground sparks, so maybe cutting works, I would try it, its not going t start a fire, but maybe try it in a safe spot! BUT. maybe it wants to ground to itself? I would be careful with no ground it could be come live? Or maybe the unit would not work if it did become live! No warranty, then try it out! :) I mean, u learned something.

My only real concern is that by removing the receptacle id be removing the fuse in it as well... Any electricians or experienced folk lurking in the shadows have a bit to offer? Anything is much appreciated.. My lafies are in the dark til i fix this but im not willing to burn down my house lol

what do you mean hard wire it? do you mean by passing the receptacle on the ballast and wiring the power wires directly to the wires inside? well, i don't see why it wouldn't work or can't be done. just make sure the ballast has been sitting for a few days with no power because they can hold a charge still and zap you.
just carefully open the ballast up and cut the wires from the receptacle then get a 240v power cable that fits and cut the end off. then strip all the wires(Should be 3, positive, neutral and ground. then splice each wire with its corresponding one inside the ballast and cap it with a wire nut. then tape the connection with electrical tape to insulate it all.
For the fuse part, i don't really know. maybe you could get a fuse holder from radio shack(costs a couple bucks) and just put it inline with the positive wire. make sure everything is secure since its a high voltage.

but that is how i would do it. i have a lot of experience in diy electronics and stuff of that sort. so i could help just pm me

Let there be light.. Were groovin along spark free with cool wires all around and a bulb burning bright. Thanks again guys. I hate this new technology lol. I never used to have to wonder if what i did was gonna fuck up the smart chip or fkin processor lol.

so you got it all wired up? great! glad to hear it worked out.
ya i know with the digital ones there are electronics in it that can get fucked up easily.

Its definetly bright lol. Ty im using a home made box for flower w a dual 600w ballast and as u can see i need more veg room so il likely be ditching the tent asap and movin onto somethin bigger. Ill start a new journal sometime this week.

i've rewired power jacks for an assortment of electronics. for an old cell phone when the jack broke, for a computer power supply, my psp, my wii has broke and i re did the power jack on it. i know quite a bit about electronics. just not too sure on schematics and the super technical aspects. but if u have any problems just pm me im glad to help.
