Can I Top Yet?

Alright my plants are in my avatar picture they are 5 inches tall and 2 1/2 weeks old they are very bushy and the nodes aren't spaced very far apart but they have 5 of them would it be ok to top it above the second node to get 4 collas already ? Or will they nodes eventually stretch further apart ?
I've read UB's topping method already I just want to make sure, thanks for the help :joint:

I say go for it. You could try topping one of them and do a FIM on the other, that might be cool, if you havent done this kind of thing before.

Uncle Ben pretty much lays it out for you. The reasoning behind waiting for atleast 5 nodes is to make sure your plant has the strength and vigor to bounce back after the cut. A lot of folks say "That's a huge waste of plant material!" I say : "Learn how to clone, make use of that top."

The space between the nodes is very small I don't know if it will root :/ or could I take off the bottom most node and hope it roots that way ?

Just take off the branches from the lowest node of the cutting so you have more stalk to work with.

I don't think you have to top right above the second node to get four colas. I did the 2nd node my last grow and sure enough I got four colas. But by the time it finished, I had two dominant colas and the other two were way behind. On my next grow, I topped after the fifth or sixth true node and I still ended up getting four colas. I also did FIM on one and got four colas. I say just top off at the very top or do FIM. No need to chop off a bunch of healthy plant. That is what I would do. If you do take off a big section, for sure try using it as a clone.

My question to you would be how many plants are your growing under a light what kind of light they seem really small to me i like to grow monsters due limiits. it takes about 2 weeks for the sides to start to come up after a topping if you are just gonna top and fire them off i wouldnt bother stressing them out. besides like you said your clone is gonna be super small.

Word. I have tried both ways and found it a little silly to let it grow then chop it down. Botanically it is way more upsetting to remove that much material and throw off the homeostasis of the plant and balance between production and utilization of carbohydrates. I know UB said say, but quite frankly, he says allot of things (or the same things over and over) that have some degree of merit but lets just remember they are not written in stone tablets that he carried forth from the mountain.

I can see no advantage to letting it grow and then topping low. The more vegetation that you take off (in terms of the total vegetation present) the more stressful it is. I would just top it at the node and be done with it. That's why the call it topping.... its not called "middle-ing"
