Starting in August would give a very small yield, if you get anything at all. But give it a try.

Farm dirt (whatever that is) should work fine. Add about 1/3 of perlite (by volume) to it and it will help the plants *a lot* by giving their roots room to breath in the soil. And once the plants get 3 sets of leaves or so you can start adding fertilizer a little at a time. Again though, being as late in the season as it is I don't see this being a very successful grow.
