Can i Veg for 16 hours per day

People,

Can i veg with 16 hours of light per day ? Or only with a min of 18 ?

What i'm trying to find out is has anyone had success with a 16 hour on light cycle in veg ?

Your help would be appriciated.

are you trying to save power ???? you could but some strains will start to flower with that much dark, but in reallity your only slowing growth so in the long run ill bet that the 2 hours of power you save wont be savings at alll once you factor in longer veg time and reduced yields, so just do 18

yea, u can do that, but its wiser to go with 18/6, but its all up to u, if U want U can go with even 15 hs of light, but is all up to you and i say, go with 18/6

Yes it was to save power and reduce the noise when we sleep.. i have an inline fan thats a little noisey at 6am. Also at what time do you put plants grown from seeds under a 400w hps ? I'm using cfls at the moment and have been under them for 10 days now. Just want to excellerate growth ?

just stick with 18/6, a proven schedule, for the 4 weeks of veg, it'll be done and into 12/12 before you know it.

i had mine under a 400w hps 18/6 from seed and have shown absolutely no negative effects. big girlies!

jUST DON'T WANT TO BURN THE LITTLE BUGGERS UNDER THE 400W.. HOW FAR SHOULD TYE LIGHT BE AWAY FROM THE PLANTS ??? I WAS GOING TO GO A 1.5 FEET ??

ANY IDEAS ?

you waited 6 minutes...

i don't know the specifics, but 1. hold you hand above the sprout, palm down, if it feels hot, raise the light. 2. i had mine around 12 inches to start with then once thye were a bit stronger i took it down to 6 inches (400w hps with a cooltube! so be aware of the temperatures and heat etc)

overall hps is better than any other light. believe me they go ballistic under the hps. broader leaves and they get bushy.

They are seedlings at the moment.. Only spoted 10 days ago has the 4 set of leaves coming on now. Just wasn't shaw when to move from the cfls to the 400w hps but judging by tip tops results i'll move them later on today and put the light at 18/6

depends if you're using soil with pre-added nutrients such as miracle grow. you'll want to be careful if it does, as you might get a bit of burning.

i mixed my own soil up, and it only had a little bit of nute in it, so i waited till day 16 for 2 of the strains, and a further 2 days for 2 of the slower growers. it could be that i waited too long, this grow is largely going on guesswork :), but all are healthy 6 weeks down the line
