Can new plants be set on 12 hour cycle

Can one simply keep a plant on a 12 hour on 12 hour off cycle for its entire life. I have heard they need more like 18 hours initially. Why? Does that extra 4 hours make that much of a difference?

yes you can grow 12/12 from seed. look into SOG (se of green)
growing with 24 or 18/6 is to give your plants good veg and give them good height for when you flower. if you grow on 12/12 from the start your plants will flower once mature enough. going 12/12 start to finish will give you somewhat short plants but thats why you grow lots at once for 12/12

ok so in my ind theres 3 differnet stages of the cannabis plant

theres the fist stage that is the germination/seedling

seedlings need 24/0 lighting for the first few weeks

then u go into the 2nd stage witch is veg

for vegging u can still use 24/0 or 18/6 and 16/8

the only time you use 12/12 is for flowering ur plant to produce buds

you can use 12/12 the entire plant life but if u want to get better yeilds i would veg it for a few weeks first
