provided they are ripe and properly matured your buds will feel completely dry, crisp to the touch when you begin the curing process. after a day of being in the jar they will be slightly moist again, hence the need for "burping" the jars. moisture is retained in the stem and innards of the bud, curing allows this moisture to dissapate evenly throughout the bud.
you dont need a "mason jar" any airtight jar will do, dry buds till they're just crispy on the outside then place them in the jar and seal them for a day, "burp" jars daily by opening them for about 15 to 30 minutes to allow moisture to evaporate, after about a week they will not need any more burping and be smokeable. cannabis is like fine whine, if stored properly (kept away from air, heat, and light) it only gets better with age
