Can support plants keep mites away?

Hello friends,

Was wondering what people thought of adding companion plants to their grow. I've read that spider mites don't go near plants like chives & garlic for example...how true is this?

So would a rosemary plant lying on the side of the canopy keep those bastards away? would be much easier than spraying all the leaves every few days.

Marigolds work for a lot of bugs. Almost every farmers almanac suggests them. As far as garlic and chives they have their own resistances for bugs but as a companion plant I believe it is better suited for root prone pests like grubs or gnat larvae.

I usually have tomatoes in my veg room. They keep a lot of bugs away and anything daring enough to eat them dies soon after!

I also love using good bugs to kill bad bugs. If your daring enough to use them this is my secret bug assassin.... .....Wolf Spiders ...doesn't take many of them, and they don't make webs.

Ok so I got mites from the person that gave me my clones to start. I literally freaked out Because im a total clean freak. He swore they were clean I noticed wk4. I trashed the 2 with webs and sprayed Habenero spray (search habenero mite killer or something for that posting if u want) continuously every other day to start then I went hard for 3days straight right b4 lights out. I did tons of research and everyone says use 3types of methods for mites cause they get used to and build a tolerance. That's with most chemicals. This is my job/life sort of so I have the time to cater to my girls. I want no Chemicals added AT ALL. I smoke it and I want to utterly enjoy every bit. (Weed connoisseur lol) Anyways tons of research. I invested in some Chive plants from home depot and seeds. After my Habenero spray I followed up with some Mighty Wash. The habenero spray got a little rough.. lol
Anyhow chives are good for preventive care for sure. You have to have enough and you have to keep them in regular pots away from your roots. You dont want your stuff chivy haha.
I also use diatomaceous earth all around my entire grow room entry ways floors trays pots top of the soil. I even blow it directly on my vegging girls just to keep the enviroment hostile. Prevenitive care is whats important. And keeping everything surgical clean! Lol@surgical im a little carried away.

don't count on repellent type plants to keep them away
Absolutely! Their are numerous types of mites, with unique resistances! Also bringing in some types of plants may attract specialized bugs every plant has it's nemesis!

I use diatomaceous earth and haven't had any issues with mites.

chive talkin about hostile surgery, peppers and blowin dirt. your grow room sounds like an adventure.
Mine literally looks like an operating room!!!! Clean AF!!! It took a lot to get it there.... I was just going a little overboard with my whole mite experience explanation. Using no chemicals makes things a little tricky.... Adventurous I guess you'd say ❤

I'm curious about the pepper spray I've used it on vegetables but not on herbs? Wouldn't that stay on the buds? burn when smoked? Or do you back off a few weeks before harvest?

Yes, on no-chemicals. @KushyKari neem is nice as a preventative, so is healthy soil. I always inspect clones before accepting them, unless i KNOW the source v. well. the onus of clean plants rests on us no matter what; a few wk. quarantine period isn't a bad idea just to be sure.

I Spray in veg I won't put them in to flower if I suspect any chance of mites. I always follow with water after too. I found 1 mite on a plant in flower and I think this guy I had doing work on my electrical brought it in from another grow.(sounds far fetched)
In flower I use Mighty wash, as preventive care mostly (besides the one bastard I found)In the early stages (up to wk4 myself personally) of flower just to make sure I don't end my harvest with those fuckers.
You can use the pepper spray up to the last 2-3wks just like mighty wash but I would never. I like good taste etc..they say mighty wash can be used up to day of harvest haha. Ya right I wouldn't use anything week of let alone day of...The pepper spray was tough, I wore gloves and covered my face but if even the slightest bit got on my skin it lasted for 4 hours very irritating and makes your house smell like habanero. The peppers were to go hard and knock those bastards out. It worked. Was worth the sneezing and burning. Mites make me loose sleep at night.

It was my first grow that I got the mites. From my start up clones. It was a beginners lesson for sure!! I don't use neem because I have a certain strain I grow that has a certain taste I'm very anal about my bud. Neem makes it taste like shit dirt. No offense. Everyone has there things. And yes I will never take another clone from anyone else. Ever

I must be awesome because I've still yet to see any spider mites in my grow room.
I did spot a wolf spider in there the other day. I didn't know they were beneficial. I will be more welcoming in the future.
