Nice thing now is that there's more places where it's legal than illegal.NOT without a warrant. And even then a good attorney would challenge its validity.
They are also prohibited from using a FLIR camera mounted on a helicopter to scan your home for a suspicious heat signature as well as bringing a drug dog on to your front porch on a 'knock and talk'
The 4th Amendment is a helluva thing!
For a non-commercial size grow, it's doubtful they would see enough of a spike in energy consumption (especially now with LED's) to raise any red flags unlesss there was an informant or other reasonable cause. When I started indoors, my power bill went up significantly, but I have a very small house (700 sq ft.) I had no problems. Really all they can go after you now for is having too man plants, or building code violations usually for electrical issues (they want everything hard wired, and no extension cords). Now they would need cause and an administrative warrant, to go into the garage. They can ask, but without a warrant, you can say, No! Even back in the day, most of the people who got caught were doing entire house grows, where every room was used and the power consumption went up geometrically.I don't believe power consumption would be a red flag. A light schedule, would be more so, imo. Even then, they don't know if you're growing veggies, herbs, flowers, etc.
