Can you cut a clone during flowering?

I was wondering, mostly out of curiosity, can a clone be cut from a flowering plant and set to 12/12 immediately?

For example, lets say you've got a Sativa dom female who is growing a little faster vertically than you want. If you top it early in the flowering cycle, say within the first week or two of flowering, can you plant it next to it's original plant under 12/12 lighting? Will it grow new roots under 12/12 or just wither away?

Yes, you could. However, It is better to keep the clones in Veg until they root and grow a bit before putting them into flower. Sometimes I clone my plants in flower only on the bottom of the plant. Just tie down the plant to reduce the growth or look into super cropping.

You can't cut a clone, while in flowering, and root it under 12/12 and have it continue flowering, if that is what you are asking. The plant will have to generate an entirely new root system, which would cause the plant to naturally kill off its flowers and re-enter a vegatative mode. If you could keep the flowers alive, and have those same flowers develop after taking a clone, i would be HIGHLY impressed. In my opinion, due to the metabolic pathways of the plant, it isn't possible.

A long, long, time ago I topped and cloned a Sativa in a similar manner, except I put the clone in veg for a month before flowering it. It worked great, but I only did 1 grow (about 4 plants) and then I re-vegged the survivors after harvest. Re-vegging is a great way to go, but this time I think I'm gonna keep a mother and do clones...once I find a mother of the quality I want.

You can absolutely take a clone in flowering and many actually intentionally take clones 2-4 weeks into flowering since the hormones produce many branches. Google "monster cropping" and you'll find a lot of info. Cloning time seems to be fairly unaffected @ 10 days to first roots. The re-veg processes will start once new growth appears but it will grow these funky 1 or 3 finger deformed leaves until the re-veg is complete in 2-3 weeks. Some leaves will even form 360 spirals but once the re-veg is complete you will have a very branchy plant that is going to have a crazy amount of bud sites.

Woops, didn't catch that you wanted to keep it in 12/12. My guess is that it would work but not produce very well since it doesn't have an established root structure.
