Can you set up an automatic watering system indoors, while your on vacation?

Well that wouldn't exactly work because I don't have a traditional outside water faucet.

My options are to have a reservoir filled up..or connect something to my kitchen sink that can be used while I'm away.


I think the safer method is to fill up a reservoir... And put enough water in there for as long as I'm going to be gone.

I don't plan on being gone any longer than 2 weeks during a grow anyway.


Except for my house plants, the ones that don't require that much water they could be okay...longer than 2 weeks me being gone.
 
That would require some sort of adapter.... I suppose I could use that if I somehow put a hose on one end and had that units sucking water from the reservoir... But that being said I don't know that I would want to use traditional hose... I think we could still be better to use smaller hoses for the outputs...

Not sure how to make that work in an indoor setting but it does look cool. ☮️

Yep, slap a timer on it and you're golden.
 
I don’t know about a soil grow and using faucet water, but I grow hydro with coco/perlite, a large res, basic nutes (jacks or gh flora) and a recirculating drip type system. I leave for two weeks at a time frequently, but never longer without someone checking in. I also have a dehumidifier that returns water to the res keeping it somewhat topped off. I won’t say it’s foolproof but works and I’ve never had major issues. I did have to switch to ro water to keep the ph stable.
 
Well I'm using Brita filtered water... I have a TDS meter that can let me know if my water has too much pollutants in it.

I'm guessing that Brita filtered water would be better than just plain old tap water.

But hooking up a hose to water perhaps not the greatest idea... I would probably just fill up reservoirs.


Most of the soil that I'm using has cocoa in it.

It has WiFi, so you can control it while on vacation as long as your phone can connect to the internet.
 
Really curious on how you did it... i have 4 seedlings 6 days old in half quart pots. Ill be leaving them for 10 days. Did you get the self watering system or found a super simple solution? Hoping for the latter

Dunno how it worked out for them, but I have been growing in dirt in 80 gal pots. They are just enough for two weeks with a fully mature plant in flower, 10-12 days without any worries.

Edit: nvm, didn't realize this was the hydroponicsforum. The idea stands though if you have room for 80 gal of coco or perlite/vermiculite. You could probably also just toss a small pot into a garbage bag of vermiculite if you use net or fabric pots.

A month is way to long to be away, I have gone away for 12 days and that was really to long.
Once you decide on the system you are going to use I would watch it for a week, two weeks and so forth making sure the system is doing what you want.
