Can you use a universal power supply for a 600W Lumatek Ballast?

Just wondering, because we get brownouts every couple of months maybe, and power outages a couple of times a year. I would want one, just to be able to keep the power on long enough for me to power down properly, maybe 10 minutes max.

They advertise them for PC's, and "electronics." My Lumatek ballast is "electronic", and I'm sure some computers have 600 watt power supply's. :dunce:

I think you mean an uninterruptible power supply. I'm sure if you select the proper size, it will work. May I ask, what's involved in powering down your setup properly? There might be better devices out there for what you want to do.

Yes, you are right, uniterruptible it is. I just have to turn off the lights at the timer or unplug it. I unplug my inline fan system, turn off fans, etc. I wanted a system that protected against brownouts, where the lights would go out and come back on right away. That actually scares me a little and I wanted to be as safe as possible, AND of course protect my bulb/ballast investment.

I purchased a cyberpower cp1500 UPS. It runs my light (600w) and inline fan. About 750 watts total for about 3 minutes. I unplugged it, imitating a brownout, and it kept the light and fan on, but it did dim it some. I'm not sure why it dimmed it, because it said it was outputting the correct wattage.

The UPS did run my 45 watt bedroom fan for one and a half hours.
