i think the best way to remember the set up is like a car intake system first thro' the air filter suuuuuuuuuuck then out thro' the exhaust box.

Yea but there is allot to venting rite like Negative and positive pressure im trying to understand what best or how to go about it but the best way i've learn is actually trying it out.

I think the filter works just as well either way, but fans are more effective at pulling air than pushing it.
Few ventilation tips; keep ducting runs as short and straight as possible, if you have to bend it, keep it a long, smooth bend rather than a short tight one.
Also, try to keep the ducting after the fan as short as possible, in other words, put the fan as close to the exhaust point as you can realistically get it, so the fan is sucking most of the length of the duct.
Get a bigger fan than you think you need, much bigger, and a speed controller. A big fan running at half speed will make a fraction of the noise that a smaller one running flat out will, not to mention that it will last a lot longer. Even a slightly oversized fan run at 9/10ths will make significantly less noise.

im actually about to set mine up...i have an 8 inch exhaust fan 2 6ers and a a lil 4 incher...I am venting into the crawlspace of our condo as well as pulling cool air from the same location...i was planning on pulling into the room thru the can with the 8...duct to the hood...directly back out to crawlspace through a different hole...with the 6 inch on the other end pulling air out....so is it defeating the purpose by using the same air space?

Would i be better off with the 6 as the intake and 8 as the exhaust going to the canfilter

I would use the 8in fan with the filter in the room for exhaust and odor control... I would just vent to the crawlspace and use the other fan as an intake just from the outside of your room... good luck :peace:

Just wanted to show what I have going... It works good for me..
Thank you NW for ur input...i suppose i should have mentioned that it is a closet and venting out of the room other than thru a wall or the door the floor is the only option...but i can run the duct work away from each other. I am about to flower them so the door cannot be open like it is now...I am actually forced to move the reservoir into to crawlspace making it sit roughly 5 feet below the tray due to size constraints. Do you ideally want the larger fan after the smaller one when they are one the same line to create negative air flow or before?

O and BTW ur little setup looks clean and sexy...I like it

Yea you should use the larger fan for exhaust.. and try to find another place to pull your fresh air from, other than your crawlspace for your intake into you room.

you can use it both ways, if you are pushing air through it and you want to maximize the filter life you can take the dust filter off the outside and stick it in the inside

ok new plan...instead of having the air pushing through the filter i am going to put it in a 50 gallon trash bucket with a lid. a hole on the side of the bucket with air coming from the room. Another hole cut into the lid of the trashcan with a 8" exhaust fan pulling air out of the filter inside the bucket...essentially creating an extension of the room

Did you get the Can-Filter and the 8in fan for the filter? If you did you don't have to put it in a bucket you can just set it up in the room and let it filter the room. you could use a T fitting to attach your exhaust duct as well, and just let it exhaust with the other fan. Let me know what you do how it works out.. Peace
